General’s Government Office

Suiyuan City General Government Office in Hohhot(呼和浩特市绥远城将军衙署) is one of the national cultural heritages in China, it is located in the new municipal area of Hohhot, Inner Mongolia, In Yongzheng Period, in order to strengthen the defense power of the northwest part, a new city was built. During the Qianlong Period, the city was finished. In secession, General Government Office was set here for administration.

Historical Value

The General Government Office is the Qing government in order to strengthen the control of the frontier minority and prevent Junggar Mongolia invaded the northwest frontier of Qing government again, therefore set up to protect the subjects from the mainland It is an important part of “the eight banners” garrison system, and because of it is the residence for the garrison general in Suiyuan city, calls the General Government Office. It has been 270 years of history which has important historical value.

Main Attractions

Purple Lilac Trees
There are four famous trees in the Qingcheng, the purple lilac trees. They were all planted in the eighteenth year of Daoguang period of Qing dynasty( 1838). In every connection of spring and summer, the purple flowers will be blooming on the branched of the purple lilac trees. The fragrance of the flowers is spread far away and refreshing the visitors’ heart and brain.

There will be a lot of visitors to appreciate the beautiful flowers and you will see the grand occasion of the feas around the “May Day” holiday. The lilac is the city flower of Hohhot.

Culture Relics
The first exhibition hall is located in the east of the General Office Site. In the past, the hall was called the Zhe Room. Zhe Room is used as the meeting hall and the rest room for the junior officer of the office to report the event.

The things carried by a guard of honor when the Suiyuan City General proceed the royal progress were the two Apricot yellow umbrellas, a pair of Golden cudgels, two pieces of fans, a pair of cold weapons, a pair of Yanlin swords, a pair of spear, a set of arrow to hunt for the beast, a pair of boards written Huibi (回避) and Sujing (肃静) in Chinese.

Present situation

The existing General Government Office was distributed into buildings in the Qing dynasty, buildings of the Republic of China, and the other buildings with three types of building in all. The building group consists of left, middle and right three parts; the flat represents a rectangle of north and south is long and west and east is narrow.

It is now Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region key cultural relics protection unit level. General Government Office is a strict architectural symmetry, full specifications established by a product Fengjiangdali, covering about 30,000 square meters, a total of 132 houses. In the Government Office, the corresponding wall built with channels to the east Cheng overflowing with flavor, the southwest corner is a small garden. There is General Office Recovery Suiyuan City Exhibition and display historical overview Suiyuan Man City in the Government Office.
