But in terms of overall cost, it is the quickest and most convenient way to fly to Chengdu or Chongqing and then take a long-distance bus to the scenic spot. If you choose to take the train, you also need to go to Chengdu first and then take a coach to get to Jiuzhaigou because there is no train station neither in Jiuzhangou county, nor Aba Prefecture. In the Jiuzhaigou scenic area, you can take the green sightseeing buses or just walk on the gallery roads in the scenic spot.
How to Get There & Away
By Air
Jiuzhai Huanglong Airport is located next to Jiuzhaigou Scenic Spot in the county, with flights to and from Chengdu, Chongqing, Xi'an, Shanghai and other places. It is the most convenient way to fly to Chengdu or Chongqing first, and then transfer to Jiuzhaigou airport, which will take about 40 minutes to fly between Chengdu and Jiuzhaigou. Located in the town of Chuanzhusi, Songpan County, the airport is about 90 kilometers from Jiuzhaigou and 59km from Huanglong Scenic Spot. During the peak season, it has opened direct flights to Xi 'an, Kunming, Zhangjiajie, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Beijing and Shanghai. Please Note: Due to the earthquake on August 8, 2017, direct flights to many cities have been cancelled. At present, Jiuzhai Huanglong Airport has only two routes to Chengdu and Chongqing.
How to Get to Jiuzhaigou Scenic Spots:
- Airport Shuttle Bus:There are two airport shuttle bus lines:
1. Jiuhuang Airport-Jiuzhaigou, costing about 45RMB.
2. Jiuhuang Airport-Huanglong-Jiuzhaigou, costing about 90RMB. There is no specific departure time for the shuttle bus. It departs only when filled up. Sometimes the buses will be canceled during the off-season. - Taxi
It is very convenient to take taxi from the airport to the Jiuzhaigou, costing about 200-300RMB.

By Train
At present, there are no direct trains to Jiuzhaigou. You have to go to Chengdu or Guangyuan, Jiangyou first and then take another vehicles transfering to Jiuzhaigou, very inconvenient. While the Chengdu - Lanzhou Railway under construction has set Jiuzhaigou station, which is expected to be completed in 2020. By then, it will only take two hours from Chengdu to Jiuzhaigou.
By Long-distance Bus
In Jiuzhaigou, there are two bus stations, namely Jiuzhaigou Gate Tourist Transportation Center and Jiuzhaigou Bus Station. Make sure that where you are going is Jiuzhaigou Scenic Area or Jiuzhaigou County, which are not the same place.

Chengdu - Jiuzhaigou
It's the West Line connecting Chengdu and Jiuzhaigou, with the total length of 440km. There are regular buses running to Jiuzhaigou from Chengdu. It is suggested to travel from Chengdu with more tickets. Chengdu is the most common and popular hub to get to Jiuzhaigou, taking about 8-10 hours under normal weather and traffic conditions. The travel route is: Chengdu - Wenchuan - Maoxian - Songpan - Jiuzhaigou.
You can take the long-distance bus from Chadianzi Bust Station, Xinnanmen Bus Station, or Ximen Bus Station in Chengdu to Jiuzhaigou, costing about 120-150RMB. It is much better to buy the ticket one day in advance.

Mianyang - Jiuzhaigou
It's the East Line connecting Mianyang and Jiuzhaigou, with the total length of 480km.The direct bus from Mianyang to Jiuzhaigou departs at Pingzheng bus station. There are three buses a day, only two of which run to Jiuzhaigou scenic spot. The other one goes to Jiuzhaigou county. When buying tickets, you must know the destination clearly. The coach will have a rest and eat on the way. It is suggested to prepare snacks. The travel route is Mianyang-Jiangyou-Pingwu-Jiuzhaigou.
Gansu - Jiuzhaigou
It's the North Line connecting Lanzhou and Jiuzhaigou, with the total length of 711km.There are regular buses to Jiuzhaigou every day in Lanzhou: from Lanzhou Central Bus Station at 7:30 a.m., Lanzhou East Bus Station at 8:00 a.m. and Lanzhou South Bus Station at 8:45 a.m. There are not too many buses per day. Please buy tickets one day in advance. The travel route is Lanzhou-Linxia-Hezuo-Luqu-Ruoergai-Chuanzhusi-Jiuzhaigou.
How to Get Around
By Sightseeing Bus
When visiting Jiuzhaigou scenic area, the most continent way getting around is to take sightseeing bus, costing about 90RMB in peak season and 80RMB in off-season. The ticket could only be useful in the scenic area and cannot work a second time. The sightseeing buses keep running between Shuzheng Valley, Rize Valley, Zhechawa Valley. The service time is 08:00-19:00, which maybe adjusted in off-season. Ask for confirmation in advance.
By Bus
There are many other interesting attractions nearby Jiuzhaigou, such as Huanglong National Park, Songpan Old Town, Muni Valley, etc. There are direct buses only between Jiuzhaigou and Huanglong. Songpan and Chuanzhusi are the main transfer spots to other scenic areas.
Departure from Jiuzhaigou Valley
Jiuzhaigou Passenger Transportation Center is about 500 meters away from the mouth of Jiuzhaigou Valley.
- To Huanglong: It's 144km away from Huanglong and there is a direct bus during peak season. There are 2-3 shifts from 6: 30 a.m. to 7: 30 a.m. and the fare is 40 yuan. Return to Jiuzhaigou from Huanglong at 15:00 pm.
- To Songpan: There is a bus at 7:20 a.m. and the fare is 27 yuan.
- To Chuanzhusi: There is a bus at 7:20 a.m. and the fare is 24 yuan.
Departure from Songpan
- To Jiuzhaigou: It's 118km and there are 3 buses at 7:00, 11:30 and 13:00 every day, and the ticket price is 28 yuan.
- To Huanglong: There is a bus to Huanglong every morning at 7 o'clock in the peak season. One and a half hours to Huanglong, the ticket price is 25 yuan, and generally return to Songpan around 3: 00m. There is no shuttle bus during the off season.
- To Miyaluo and Heishui Dagu glacier: There is no direct bus. You have to transfer to Wenchuan and Maoxian respectively.
Departure from Chuanzhusi
It is very convenient to change buses. You can wait for the bus from Songpan to Jiuzhaigou and Huanglong at Chuanzhusi bus station (you can get to Chuanzhusi within half an hour after the bus starts from Songpan). The fare is a few yuan cheaper than getting on the bus at Songpan.
By Taxi
Taxis and private cars are not allowed entering the scenic area. The taxis outside the scenic area are available with starting fee of 5 or 6RMB within 2 kilometers. Only a few drivers will use the meter. Therefore, it is necessary to make price negotiation before stepping into the taxi. Usually, the fare between the county seat and the valley does not exceed that of 10 yuan.
By Walking
There are over 70km of eco-friendly wooden trails throughout Jiuzhai Valley National Park. Not only do these increase the sustainability of tourism in the park by reducing the impact of visitors on the environment, they also maximise visitor enjoyment by facilitating walking through the national park to sites not visible from the road. In the forests, on the other side of the lakes and away from the road, walking through the park is even more peaceful. It is possible to get the bus to the top of one of the park’s valleys and walk all the way out. This should take the best part of one day. If you would like to walk all of the three valleys two full days would be required.
