The Yuan Capital City Wall Site Park, also known as the Tucheng or Earth Wall Park, is an urban park and historic site in Beijing. The park was mandated as one of the main protected units of historic relics at city level by Beijing municipal government. It is the largest band shaped park in Beijing with a total length of 9 km. 

History of Yuan Capital City Wall Site Park

The park was created in 2003 to preserve the ruins of the northern city wall of Khanbaliq or Dadu, capital of the Mongol Yuan dynasty. The city wall was constructed in 1267 and finished in 1276. It was abandoned in the Ming dynasty when Beijing was rebuilt and slightly shifted to the south. The northern segment of the city wall is preserved, and a narrow and long park was created around the ruin of the city wall in Haidian District and Chaoyang District.The city government made it a park on March 10, 1988, which is named “Yuan Capital City Wall Site Park.”

Main Attractions of Yuan Capital City Wall Site Park

  • Dadu Capital Founding Ceremony scenic area includes a sculpture complex and a large-scale mural.The main sculpture is 30 meters long and 9 meters high. It is intended to show the historical fact that the Emperor Shizu of the Yuan Dynasty founded the Dadu Capital in 1267.

By Beijing Subway and get off at Xitucheng, leave from Exit C and enter the park through the West Gate;

By Beijing Subway and get off at Mudanyuan, leave from Exit D, and get into the park through the No. 5 West Gate; Jiandemen, leave from Exit C, and get into the park through the No. 1 North Gate or the No. 3 West Gate;

Best Time to Visit

The Crabapple Flower Festival here is one of the three most popular flower festivals in Beijing, along with the Peach Flower Festival in the Botanical Garden and the Cherry Flower Festival in the Yuyuantan Park. They are usually in full blossom in middle to late April.
