Why is Yangdi Scenic Area So Special?

The scenery on the way from Yangdi to Xingping Town is the highlight of the Li River cruise and you will come across Wave-stone View, Xialong Village, Mural Hill, and Yellow Cloth Shoal. It is fair to say that if Li River were a piece of long poem, then the trip from Guilin to Ox Village is the prelude at best. Whereas, the trip starting from Yangdi Village is the theme part with appealing scenery and typical karst landscapes. Therefore, if time is limited, we suggest that you restrict your Li River trip to this section.

Where is Yangdi Scenic Area

Yangdi Village is located on the west bank of the Li River, about 50km (31 miles) from Guilin, and 40km (25 miles) north of Yangshuo County. Behind the village lies a hill consisting of twin peaks, which look like two sheep hoofs hanging upside down. Hence the village gets its name Yangdi, which has a harmonic tone with ‘Yangti’, the Chinese expression for ‘sheep hoofs’.

Main Attraction of Yangdi Scenic Area

Many attractive scenic spots can be found around the village of Yang Di. On the way from the upper half of the river to the village, you will meet Yuanyang Beach. On the west side of the coast stands two stalactites, which look like a pair of mandarin ducks nestling close to each other. There is a hill near Yang Di village, on which stands a big stone like a round millstone. Next to it is another three-yard inclined stone, like a human grinding wheel, so the whole is called “human grinding wheel”.

About 1 kilometer (0.6 mile) downstream from Yang Di Village is a spectacular landscape of waves and rocks. White waves beat against the rocks in the river, which is different from the calm and peaceful water you can see on the Lijiang River. Down the river, you will meet another attraction: a boy worships Buddha. A mountain peak like Buddha sits quietly. A smaller mountain peak stands in front of it, like a boy kneeling to worship Buddha. Those visions are wonderful, aren’t they? But what is even more incredible is that nature has given these peaks various shapes.

Elegant mountains, winding waterways, delicate coasts, dramatic waterfalls, dense green bamboos and dotted villages form a beautiful landscape painting. Yang Di Village is an ideal place to enjoy the Lijiang River in the misty rain. The Lijiang River seems to be a peaceful, peaceful and mysterious fairyland. November to March is the dry season of Lijiang River. Yang Di Village sometimes becomes the starting point of Lijiang River cruise when water resources are extremely scarce. It is suggested that tourists visit the Lijiang River during the high water level from April to October, when the river is deeper and greener.
