Ethnic Festivals

Fishing Fire Festival on Yangshuo Li River(阳朔漓江渔火节)

To some extent, it can be regarded as a new festival in Yangshuo, Guilin, which celebrated in November 1999 for the first time. On the festival, many local fisherman will get together on the Li River at night on their traditional bamboo rafts with golden lanterns. In the evening, you can find many people on the  banks of Li River show various dances and competitions and Li River looks beautiful decorated by numerous small boats.

Yangshuo Sheri Festival(阳朔社日)

In general, it is during the second and the eighth lunar month of Chinese calendar and held in villages and townships in Yangshuo. Sheri Festival is a festival for worshipping Buddha. In the opinion of people in Yangshuo, Sheri Festival is an important festival. In Yangshuo, the festival is actually the party of men, also known as eating festival.

Zhuang Minority Folk Songs Festival(壮族山歌会)

Zhuang Minority Folk Songs Festival is generally celebrated on Mid-Autumn Day, namely, the 15th of the eighth lunar month, which is the same day with Mid-Autumn Festival. In general, the folk songs festival is held in Moon Hill. Every Mid-Autumn, all the Zhuang Villages in Yangshuo will sing folk songs. Many Zhuang girls and boys find their lovers during the folk song festival.

History Culture

Yangshuo County has a history of 1,410 years. It has been less affected by wars. It has preserved the rich culture of many ethnic minorities and foreign immigrants, and has formed a collection of folk culture. Nowadays, with the development of local tourism, this culture has its unique culture colors characterized by the folk opera, forming the famous"yangshuo culture"at home and abroad. West Street in Yangshuo is the oldest street. It has a history of nearly 600 years. It is a side street that has been loaded into history and has a typical traditional color of northern Guangxi.

Marriage Custom

It is the special marriage custom of the Yao people to let the son-in-law live with parents-in-law. In general, the marriage customs of the Han people are generally that the son does not live with the parents-in-law. Unless there are many brothers in home, or the parents have no money to help the son to marry a wife. However, the Yao people are different. Regardless of whether the parents have money and no money, the son usually live with his parents-in-law.
