History of Silk Road
The overland Silk Road originated in the Western Han Dynasty (202-8 years ago) when Emperor Wu of Han sent Zhang Qian to the Western Regions to open an overland passage starting from the capital Chang ‘an (now Xi ‘an) through Gansu and Xinjiang to Central and West Asia and connecting Mediterranean countries. Its initial function was to transport silk produced in ancient China. In 1877, German geologist Richthofen named the “Silk Road” in his book “China” as the “Western Region Traffic Road” between China and Central Asia and between China and India from 114 BC to 127 A.D. “The term was soon accepted by academia and the general public and was officially used.
The Silk Road is a trade communication line that traverses Eurasia in history and promotes friendly exchanges between European, Asian and African countries and China. China is the hometown of silk. In the trade through this route, silk is the most representative commodity exported by China. In the second half of the 19th century, German geographer Richthofen called this overland transportation route the “Silk Road”. The Silk Road Museum is divided into Li 262 Hall, Wei Jin Hall, Xiliang Kingdom Hall, Jade Road Hall, Silk Road Tour Hall, Silk Road East Hall and Silk Road West Hall.
