Why is Hami Museum So Special?

Hami regional museum is a comprehensive museum at the regional level. It is the main collection organization and exhibition center of cultural relics and specimens in the whole region. Since its establishment, Hami Museum has held various forms of exhibitions in cooperation with various cultural and art organizations both inside and outside Xinjiang by going out and inviting in. It has received good economic and social benefits. In 2000, the Regional Museum was approved by the Propaganda Department of the Party Committee of the autonomous region as a patriotic education base at the autonomous region level. It plays an important role in popularizing scientific and cultural knowledge for the people from all walks of life in the region and promoting the excellent cultural traditions of the motherland.

History of Hami Museum

Hami Regional Museum was established in 1988. At the beginning of its establishment, it implemented a team of two brands and one set of original documents. In June 2002, it moved to the south Guangdong cultural center aided by the Guangdong provincial people’s government. in July 2002, according to the spirit of document no 29 [2002] compiled by Hadi, the “Hami regional cultural heritage bureau” was set up separately from the museum, which was merged into the south Guangdong cultural center. In 2004, according to the spirit of document No.34 [2004] issued by the regional editorial office, the museum restored its independent legal personality as a section-level institution, which belongs to Hami regional cultural and sports bureau. The new Hami Museum is now located in Huancheng South Road, Hami City, and is an important cultural tourist attraction in the region.

Main Attraction of Hami Museum

Hami Museum was established in 1988 and is located at 360 Guangdong Road in the city. The existing exhibition hall covers an area of more than 800 square meters, the warehouse covers an area of 300 square meters, and the total construction area is 12000 square meters. It is divided into a history museum and a folk museum. The first floor is a temporary exhibition hall with an exhibition area of 640 square meters. It is mainly used for holding various characteristic exhibitions in the region and introducing outward exhibitions to enliven the cultural life of the local people of all ethnic groups. The second floor is the Hami Natural and Geological Exhibition Hall, with an exhibition area of 450 square meters. The exhibition work was designed and produced with the help of the vertebrate paleontology Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. More than 100 pieces of large-scale vertebrate paleontology restoration, bird fossils and fish fossils were displayed, and more than 90 pieces of various plate characters were displayed. The audience is mainly targeted at primary and secondary school students. On the third floor is the exhibition hall of “Hami Ancient Civilization Exhibition” with an area of 940 square meters. It presents Hami’s long-standing ancient civilization by means of large history and small topics. The exhibition hall has more than 800 cultural relics on display. On the fourth floor is the exhibition hall of “Hami’s Achievements in Social and Economic Development” which is being prepared and covers an area of 940 square meters. It mainly displays the major events and brilliant achievements in Hami since the reform and opening up 30 years ago. With a total area of 4,896 square meters and an exhibition area of 2,800 square meters, the Folk Museum is mainly used to hold Xinjiang Muqam Art, Hami Muqam Art and Hami Uygur folk and folk culture exhibitions. In addition, Hami Wubao’s “Yadan Geopark Nature and History Exhibition Hall”, with an exhibition area of 200 square meters, mainly displays more than 100 pieces of cultural relics unearthed from Eskochard Cemetery. The exhibition serves to enrich the construction of local new rural culture.

Hami Museum has a collection of more than 10,000 artifacts from primitive society to the Ming and Qing Dynasties, including stone tools, bronze ware, pottery, wood ware, woolen textiles and mummies. Of these, 22 are Class I artifacts, 72 are Class II artifacts and 122 are Class III artifacts.
