Golden Bauhinia Square in Hong Kong

Why is Golden Bauhinia Square in Hong Kong so Special?

Golden Bauhinia Square is an open area in Wanchai District, Hong Kong. The Plaza is named after a giant statue of Bauhinia, located outside the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center, where the handover ceremony and the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region were held in July 1997. The flag raising ceremony is held at 8 o’clock every morning. It is considered a tourist attraction.
This sculpture is a gold-plated Bauhinia Flower, 6 meters high. The main part is made up of a bauhinia pyramid on the basis of a red granite column.
The sculpture is regarded as an important symbol of the handover of Hong Kong people. On the second day of the Lunar New Year and national day, fireworks are set off in the square. Golden Bauhinia is also called “golden cypress” by local people.
