Administrative Division

Lushan City, located in the southwestern part of Jiujiang, is a prefecture-level city. It covers 913 square kilometers. It has direct jurisdiction over 9 towns and 1 township.

Geography

Mount Lushan is almost located in the southern part of Jiujiang City. Mount Lushan stretches in longitude from 115°52′ E to 116°08′E and in latitude from 29°26′ to 29°41′ N. It is bounded on the north by Yangtze River, on the east by Wuyuan County and Poyang Lake, on the south by Tengwang Pavilion and on the west by the Beijing-Kowloon Railway. And its main mountain is Hanyang Peak. The geomorphological landscape of Mount Lushan is a kind of multi-genetic compound geomorphological landscape, which is formed by the superposition of fault block mountain tectonic geomorphological landscape, ice erosion geomorphological landscape and flowing water geomorphological landscape. Mount Lushan covers 171 peaks, 20 valleys, 16 caves and 22 strange rocks. The water currents drop at cliffs and then continue flowing, thus forming 22 waterfalls, 18 streams as well as 14 lakes and pools.

Climate

Mount Lushan belongs to subtropics monsoon climate because of its latitude and longitude. The climate of Mount Lushan should be humid and hot in summer as well as a little cold and rainy in winter. Its climate, however, changes a lot because of its high altitude. Therefore, it is cool in summer and cold and snowy in winter. Besides, the annual precipitation of Mount Lushan is 1,917 mm. Best Time to Visit Mount Lushan

It is suitable for visitors to travel Mount Lushan from April to November. The best season for visiting there is summer. May to June, and September to October are the golden time to climb Mount Lushan and appreciate sunrise. However, sunrise is influenced by weather, so you’d better check the weather if you’d like to enjoy sunrise here.
In fact, travelers could visit Mount Lushan in all four seasons because visitors can enjoy totally different and charming scenery in different seasons. In spring, visitors could enjoy picturesque scenery of flowers. In Mount Lushan, visitors could enjoy cool summer. In autumn, travelers could enjoy fascinating scenery of maple. History

The earliest written record of the name of Mount Lushan appeared in Shangshu Yugong (《尚书·禹贡》) which is a famous book. From ancient times to the Republic of China, Mount Lushan, as one of the most famous mountains of China, had attracted a lot of celebrities. There were more than 1, 500 poets or writers visiting Mount Lushan, such as Tao Yuanming, Li Bai, Bai Juyi, Wang Anshi, Huang Tingjian, etc. And most of them wrote more than 4, 000 poems or essays totally about Mount Lushan. Since 1895, more than 20 countries built a lot of villas in Mount Lushan, such as Britain, Russia, the United States, France and so on. At the same time, Mount Lushan emerged a large number of foreign churches, banks, shops, schools, hospitals, municipal councils and so on, which made it become a unique representative of the mixture of western culture and Chinese culture. From the middle of the 20th century, Mount Lushan became the "summer resort" of  the  Nanjing Kuomindang Government, which embodied Mount Lushan's political status.

Economy

As one of the most popular tourist destinations in China, Mount Lushan has contributed a lot to the economic development of Jiujiang. Numerous cultural sites and scenic spots promote the development of economy of Mount Lushan. As the growth of tourism here, the service sector keeps up with tourists’ demand so that the tertiary industry develops quickly. More significantly, favorable climate conditions are not bad for basic agricultural development. Located in Jiujiang, which is an open city integrating business, finance, science and technology, culture and tourism, Mount Lushan sees favorable development pace after all sorts of efforts on growth since reform and opening up.

Tourism

Situated in the southern part of Jiujiang City, Jiangxi province, Mount Lushan attracts millions of visitors every year due to its favorable location. Besides, there are a lot of splendid tourism resources in Mountain Lushan, and its Hanyang Peak is one of the most famous mountains in the world. Since reform and opening up, Mount Lushan was paid much attention by the country, so that the development of tourism here was promoted and improved a lot under the leading of government, the tourism bureau and corresponding departments. Nowadays, Lushan City increases the construction of urban landscape as well as the greening of streets to offer the better environment for local people and visitors while promoting the development of tourism. The improvement of the landscape, service, environment, etc. of Mount Lushan, together with its excellent view would welcome more visitors and mountaineering lovers. In 2017, Mount Lushan Scenic Area received 50,22,400 tourists. In the Qingming Festival of 2018, the statistics from Jiujiang Tourism Development Board suggested that 19 key scenic spots in Jiujiang received more than 501, 500 visitors within two days. And as one of the key scenic sites in Jiujiang, Mount Lushan received 109,155 tourists during this period. The tourism of Mount Lushan will develop quickly in the future.
