Geography
It is almost located in the northern part of Jiangxi Province. Jiujiang stretches in longitude from 113°57′ E to 116°53′E and in latitude from 28°47′ to 30°06′ N. It is in the downstream area of Ganjiang River and Fuhe River. Also, it is bounded on the north by Huanggang City, Wuxue City, Huangmei County and Anqin City, on the west by Yueyang City, Xianning City and Huangshi City, on the south by Xinjian District and Yichun City, on the east by Shangrao City and Chizhou City. The longest distance from the north to south in Nanchang is 14, 000 kilometers and the longest distance from the east to the west here is 270, 000 kilometers.
Climate
Because of its location in subtropical zone and influenced by east Asian monsoon, Jiujiang belongs to subtropics monsoon climate with these characteristics: humid, hot as well as abundant in sunshine and rain. The frost-free period of Jiujiang is about 255 days, and the average of foggy day of Jiujiang is less than 16 days. Best Time to Visit Jiujiang

History
Jiujiang is a city where nine rivers converged, thus making it become main water port of Jiangxi. It has a long history of more than two thousand years. During the Xia and the Shang dynasty, Jiujiang was a capital city of several states. In the Spring and Autumn Period (770-476 BC), Jiujiang was located between Wu and Chu. During the Qin dynasty, Jiujiang was known as Sin Yang. In the Liang dynasty (502-557) it was called Jiang Zhou. The Sui Dynasty named it as Jiujiang and the Song Dynasty (960-1127) renamed it as Ting Jiang. The Ming dynasty (1368–1644) gave it a name of Jiujiang which has been retained until now.
Due to its convenient location and picturesque scenery, a great number of celebrities were born here or liked visiting Jiujiang, including Tao Yuanming, Li Bai, Bai Juyi, Zhu Xi. Tao Yuanming (365-429 CE), a famous Chinese philosopher, lived in the base of Mount Lushan. He was once appointed as a magistrate of Pengze County. Having 83-day working, he retired and went back to his village and then wrote an essay called "Peach Blossom Spring". In 757, Li Bai (701-762), a prominent poet of China, was imprisoned at Jiujiang because of An-Shi disturbances (安史之乱). Bai Juyi (772-846) wrote a poem called "Lute Song", which is about his sadness and isolation of forced exile as a middle rank official to reside in such a small town. In the 13th century Zhu Xi, a Confucian philosopher, practiced at the White Deer Grotto Academy (白鹿洞书院).

Economy
The economy of Jiujiang develops rapidly, thus it becomes one of the most potential cities in China. Since 1949, the government has paid much attention to the primary industry of Jiujiang because it is famous for the "hometown of fish and rice”. Due to its climate and topography, Jiujiang has developed to be the production base of grain, cotton and rape. With the development of the primary industry, the secondary industry has developed in last ten years. In 2017, there are more than 1, 000 companies settling in Jiujiang, thus leading to a great leap in the secondary industry. Besides, the service industry has developed very quickly, especially tourism. All scenic spots in Jiujiang attracted more than 161, 580, 600 domestic visitors and more than 428, 000 visitors from foreign countries in 2018, which increased the income of tourism greatly. In 2018, the city’s gross regional product (GDP) was 270, 019 billion yuan, with an increase of 11. 87% over the previous year. The primary industry’s added value was 19,251 billion yuan, with an increase of 4.4%. The secondary industry’s added value was 121, 325 billion yuan, with an increase of 8.4%. The added value of the three industries was 101, 787 billion yuan, with an increase of 10.7%.
