How to Get to Hainan

The aviation industry in Hainan province is developing rapidly, with Haikou Meilan Airport in the north and Sanya Phoenix Airport in the south. The eastern and western expressways have been completed and opened to traffic. It only takes 4 hours to go from Haikou to Sanya along the eastern expressway. And Hainan roundabout railway has been put into use, it is convenient and swift to travel around Hainan island by train. In addition, shipping is a major transportation priority in Hainan, and Hainan has shipping business with 24 countries and regions in the world, providing convenience for compatriots from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, as well as overseas tourists to visit Hainan.

By Air

For those who prefer to fly to Hainan, they can go to Haikou by flight first, then take the train to Sanya. So far, there are 6 airports in Hainan, including Haikou Meilan International Airport, Sanya Phoenix Airport, Danzhou Airport(under construction), Qionghai Bo'ao Airport, Sanya Hongtangwan International Airport(under construction) and Sansha Yongxing Airport.

Sanya Phoenix International Airport(三亚凤凰国际机场)
Sanya phoenix international airport is the only civil aviation airport in Sanya. Haikou Meilan International Airport(海口美兰国际机场)
In the summer and autumn of 2018, Haikou Meilan international airport had air routes to 105 cities at home and abroad, covering all provincial capitals and major cities in China. A total of 40 airlines operated 169 routes at Haikou Meilan international airport. Haikou Meilan airport has convenient transportation. There is a fast track under the terminal to Meilan high-speed railway station. Passengers arriving at Meilan airport can buy train tickets to go to the downtown of Haikou or Sanya at the high-speed rail station.

By Train/High-speed Train

Hainan province is an island, which is very convenient to reach by train, and you can enjoy the beautiful scenery of Hainan on the train. The completed railways in Hainan include the Hainan roundabout railways(Hainan west ring fast railway, Hainan east ring fast railway) and the Yuehai railway.

By Long-distance Bus

Hainan has a mileage of more than 17,000 kilometers, with "three vertical and four horizontal lines" as the backbone. There are trunk lines that go directly to ports, cities and counties, and branch lines that extend to 318 towns and townships and various tourist attractions on the island. The roundabout expressway has been completed and opened to traffic. It is very convenient to take a bus to Hainan for sightseeing. There are bus stations and tourism special lines in Haikou city and Sanya city for tourists to choose from.

By Ship

Hainan is a coastal province, and shipping is particularly important for Hainan. Hainan has 68 natural harbors including 24 open ports, and Haikou port, Basuo port, Yangpu port and Sanya port are the largest. Other major ports are Qinglan port, Puqian port, Xincun port, Tanmen port, Baimajing port, Bo'ao port and Xinying port.

Passengers who want to experience the Qiongzhou strait can choose to go to Haikou by ship. Haikou Xiuying port is a transportation hub and passenger and cargo distribution center in Hainan province, it is also an important channel of passengers in and out of Hainan province. It has opened the ship routes of Haikou-Haian, Haikou-Beihai, Haikou-Zhanjiang, Haikou-Shenzhen, Haikou-Guangzhou.

How to Get Around Hainan

City Bus

Sanya's public transportation system can meet the basic needs of tourists. Because of the city's proximity to the sea, subways cannot be built. So a dozen bus lines and a few tourist lines are the entirety of the local bus system.

Haikou currently has about 64 bus routes, the fare in the urban area is mostly 1 yuan, part of it is 2 yuan; The bus fare that goes to airport and railway station is higher, executing sectional collect fees, it is usually 4-6 yuan, and tickets are sold by special staff. Haikou buses are all air-conditioned buses, a number of bus lines have been replaced by hybrid bus and pure electric bus. Just like Sanya, there are special line buses between the main tourist attractions in Haikou.

Taxi

Taxi fares vary from place to place in Hainan. Take Sanya and Haikou as example. The yellow taxis in Sanya drive only in the downtown area and the blue ones can go to some distant scenic spots. The taxi fare starts at 8 yuan, 2 yuan per kilometer after 2 kilometers, when over 10 kilometers beyond the downtown area, you should pay no-occupancy surcharge for a return trip(1 yuan per kilometer will) and waiting fee is 2 yuan per 5 minutes. Taxis in Haikou mainly include Mazda, Jetta and other models. The starting price of taxis in Haikou is 10 yuan/3 kilometers, and 2 yuan per kilometer after exceeding 3 kilometers. No fuel surcharge is required.

Train 

Railway stations in Hainan are almost on the Hainan Roundabout Railway(Hainan east ring railway and Hainan west ring railway). Therefore, there are trains reaching other railway stations in Hainan from Sanya or Hainan. It is convenient and swift to take train to travel around Hainan Island. 

Bicycle

Visitors can enjoy the charming scenery of Hainan by riding single and tandem bicycles. Many hotels and travel companies in Sanya have bike rental services, with prices ranging from 20 yuan to 100 yuan.
