Badaling National Forest Park is located at an altitude slightly higher than other Beijing attractions and is well known for the red leaves festival that takes place there. Beijing Badaling National Forest Park covers 56 hectares, and is planted with more than 50,000 maple trees.

Red Leaves Scenic Area

The red leaves scenic area covers an area of 65 hectares, keeping some 50 thousand Chinese sweet gums. The altitude there is 500 meters higher than downtown Beijing, making the place cooler in autumn the leaves easier to turn red. Tourists consider late September to October as the best time to enjoy red leaves in the Badaling Mountain. It’s estimated that the tourism peak will fall on October 15.

Red leaves in the area have three characteristics. First of all, the area boasts the most gorgeous red leaves, due to the relatively low temperature and the large temperature difference between day and night, which is in favor of pigmentation. Besides, the clean and uncontaminated air contributes to the red leaves’ growing healthily. Secondly, the red leaves turn red very early, which is about half a month early than that of downtown area. Thirdly, the area boasts the original ecological rural landscape. Fourthly, visitors can get close to red leaves and watch leaves closely instead of appreciating them at a distance.

Syringa Valley

In Syringa Valley lies the largest natural Syringa reticulata forest in northern China. In addition, the valley has a rich variety of vegetation, complete forests and distinct seasonal landscapes, making it an excellent place to enjoy natural landscapes. Every June is the best time to watch syringa when syringa blooms in the mountains and the scent of syringa fills the valley.

Azure Dragon Valley

The Badaling Great Wall is located on the north side of Azure Dragon Valley. The ditch is deep and the mountains are quiet. The mountains , forests and towers form a three-dimensional landscape painting which shocks the soul. Here you can avoid the hustle and bustle of the modern city, get in touch with nature, breathe the freshest air, and experience the magic of nature at the foot of the ancient Great Wall.

Stone Gorge

You no longer view the red leaves at a distance, but appreciate them up close in Stone Gorge. Here, you can stroll beside the Great Wall and walk through the red leaf forest to enjoy the subtle charm of the red leaves.

Best Time to Visit Badaling National Forest Park

Autumn is the best time to visit Badaling National Forest Park. when patches of red maple, yellow oak and torch fall to this land with the wanton swinging autumn wind, Badaling becomes a bright paradise; the change of time and color changes the colorful world, and the surging magnificence stains the beautiful river and mountain. If you stand in this red ocean, you will find that the whole mountain is yours. This distinctive bright red, like an umbrella shading the sky, holds up half of the sky inside and outside the Great Wall. Covered in this dazzling red glow, heart – drunk!

How to Get There

Bus

  • Bus route lines: Bus 877, 919, and 879.
  • Transport Bus 877 Special line
    A special bus line – Bus 877 heading for the Badaling National Forest Park from Deshengmen opened on Oct 15 in Beijing, to bring convenience for visitors to enjoy autumn leaves in Badaling National Forest Park.

Self-driving

A self-driving route starting from Deshengmen to the National Park only takes 45 minutes through the Badaling expressway. The parking lot can hold over 800 cars and the newly increased Hongyeling park area, only 100 meters away from the gate, is available for use.

Train

Visitors can take S2 train and the Great Wall tourist special train. The Great Wall tourist special train starts from Beijing North Railway Station and stops at Badaling Railway Station, a journey of 61 kilometers.
