This June 9, the Civil Aviation Administration of China approved Yanji Chaoyangchuan Airport to change its name to Yanji Chaoyangchuan International Airport. Since then, Yanbian’s aviation industry has officially entered the forefront of the international aviation market, opening a new chapter in innovation and development. Only five of 165 regional airports have been renamed to be international airports and Yanji Airport is also known as the most international airport.
As a “window” and “frontier” for development and opening up, in recent years, Yanji Airport, relying on Yanbian’s location and geographical advantages, formulated an airline development strategy “entering in west and exiting in east, strengthening south and expanding north, focusing on both inside and outside and developing both main and subordinate lines” and the specific route development goal “crossing the sea to island in southeast, opening the door to grassland in northwest, stopping in the central region and extending Tonghua and Baishen delta”, achieved navigation with all the countries along the Sea of Japan and formed a development positioning to be a portal airport facing Northeast Asia. Yanji Airport has opened 10 international routes to South Korea’s Seoul, Busan, Cheongju, Daegu, Jeju, Muan and Yangyang-gun, Russia’s Vladivostok, North Korea’s Pyongyang and Japan’s Osaka; one route to China’s Taibei; routes to 17 hot cities, Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Zhengzhou, Chongqing, Ningbo and Tianjin. A total of 17 airlines are operating at Yanji Airport. Yanbian’s domestic and foreign tourists achieved a double-digit growth. As of this September, Yanbian Prefecture received domestic and foreign tourists for 15.6053 million person times, growing 15.94% year on year; achieved total tourism income of RMB 30.235 billion, growing 21.16% year on year.
Walking into Yanji Airport’s lobby, in addition to a warm atmosphere, you will feel rich ethnic customs. In the waiting hall, two men dressed in national costumes are beating rice cakes in full swing and passengers waiting for flights are tasting rice cakes, drinking rice wine and enjoying folk performances. Since 2013, Yanji Airport has held “fun with passengers” activities with different topics for 34 times, which are a “city business card” to publicize Yanbian’s folk culture and tourism culture as normalized activities.
With well-ordered Yanji Airport as a background, Jilin Civil Aviation Airport Group Yanji Airport Company General Manager Jiang Yingmin described Yanji Airport’s beautiful future to reporters. Yanji Airport will continue to heat Northeast Asia travel, connect “sea and sky”, vigorously develop the “tourism + aviation” market and make Yanbian become a transfer station and tourist distributing center for tourist travel through expanding flights in the domestic central, west and south areas and increasing routes to Russia, North Korea, South Korea and Japan; explore a big tourism development pattern “coming by air, walking on ground and travelling in sea”, form an aviation network “extending in all directions and with a variety of colors”, achieve a change from “one glance of three countries” to “a group to four countries”, deepen Northeast Asia’s smooth interaction in humanity and economy and promote the regional economic prosperity and development.
With “one route and tens of millions of business opportunities”, Yanji Airport completed an annual passenger throughput of 1.481 million person times in 2016. According to the calculation of authoritative research results, it stimulated local GDP of RMB 1.35 billion, directly brought about 3,700 job opportunities and indirectly brought about nearly 30,000 job opportunities. Yanji Airport’s positioning to be Northeast Asia (ring-the Sea of Japan)’s portal airport has become increasingly prominent, more and more domestic and foreign investors have paid attention to the Yanbian market and Yanji Airport’s potential of repaying Yanbian economy is infinitely expanding.
