Tunxi Ancient Street is situated at the central area of Tunxi District, the downtown of Huangshan City of Anhui Province. Tunxi Ancient Street is located in the center area of Tunxi District of Huangshan City. It is about 5 kilometers from Huangshan Tunxi Airport, about 3.3 kilometers from Huangshan Railway Station and 13.7 kilometers from Huangshan North Railway Station

By Bus: Tourists can take Bus NO.12 at the railway station and get off the bus at Yuzhong Garden, walk across the sidewalk and it is the entrance of the mall of Tunxi Ancient Street, then walk ahead until reaching the old street. 

Main Attractions in Tunxi Ancient Street

Tunxi Museum 

Tunxi Museum is a comprehensive regional museum displaying Ming and Qing Dynasty furniture, calligraphy, paintings, porcelain, jade, bronze, Four Treasures of the Study, as well as Huizhou tile carvings. You couldn’t miss the Qing Dynasty Figure Carving – the whole tile carving is 128 centimeters high and 290 centimeters long, formed by 52 pieces of tile carvings. It presents three stories about the Three Kingdom, including A Battle at Changbanpo, Liubei Takes a Wife, and Borrowing the East Wind. You can also take a look at the She ink stone which is 1.62 meters long, 0.61 meters wide and at a weight of 360 kilograms. The ink stone can be called a unique treasure in the world. Wancuilou Museum

Built in 1996 with three floors, Wancuilou Museum is a 2000-square-meter first private museum that mixes styles of Anhui-style residence, garden, mansion and store. The owner of Wancuilou has collected large quantities of cultural objects, including over 500 famous calligraphies and paintings, and 900 rare ink slabs. The heaviest ink slab in the museum is said to be of about 12,500 kilometers. On the second floor there are also various historic objects such as porcelains and painting by celebrities, there is even fossils of turtles and dinosaur. The third floor is the living room of the owner, which is design in traditional Huizhou style. On the rooftop is a small garden with mini landscapes, fish pool, rockworks and small trees.

Hui Style Buildings

There are long lines of shops along two sides of the street. They are all made of brick and wood and have double floors in Ming-and-Qing-Dynasty style. Most of the buildings are only three stories high, stone-based and brick-laid. They are decorated with small green tiles, wood carvings in the Hui style, ancient shop signs, and red-lacquered with double eaves on the roofs. They are simple and elegant, magnificent and clean.

  1. Tunxi Ancient Street is different in the daytime and at night. If you stay close to the old street, you can take a visit to Tunxi Ancient Street to enjoy the night view of the old street.
  2. Here you can buy featured souvenirs such as traditional Chinese medicine, Qimen Black Tea, Anhui ink stick, Shexian ink stone and Anhui Four Carvings.
