Geography

Huangshan City is a prefecture-level city in southern Anhui province, People's Republic of China. Huangshan means Yellow Mountain in Chinese and the city is named after the splendid Mt.Huangshan which cover much geographic expanse of  the city.

Huangshan (Chinese 黄山 , literal meaning: Yellow Mountain) is a moutain rage in southern Anhui province in eastern China. Vegetation on the range is thickest below 1,100 meters (3,600 ft), with trees growing up to the treeline at 1,800 meters (5,900 ft).

Climate

Spring is said as the the best time to climb Mt. Huangshan (Yellow Mountain). The blooming flowers decorate the hills, which lead you into a different amazing world. Bright waterfalls and the crystal clear waters let you forget the summer’s heat and haste, which make life consolidate itself. In autumn, the mountains are beautifully decorated with red and purple blossoms. While in winter, leaves covered the mountain and  frost covers the silent world.

Best Time to Go

The best time to visit Mountain Huangshan is between April and October. During this time, the area is covered with green and the climate is comfortable and fresh. But please don't forget to bring a coat.

Transportation

Air

The airport offers domestic flights from Huangshan to Beijing, Shanghai, Wuhan, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Xian, Zhuhai, Guilin, Jinan, Hefei, Fuzhou, Xiamen and Chengdu, along with other less popular cities. The airport is also served by two regional airlines offering flights to Hong Kong and Macau. There are no direct international flights to Huangshan Airport. Annual passenger throughput averages about 900,000 at the airport.

How to get to airport?

There are Taxicab and bus service to get there. Bus service is provided between the hours of 06:40 and 17:50 only. Two bus lines service the airport-the No.17 and No.18.

Rail

The Anhui-Jiangxi Railway was completed in 1982, and has stations in Jixi County, She County, Tunxi District, Xiuning County, and Qimen County. From the main Huangshan City Railway Station in Tunxi, there is direct train service to Nanjing, Shanghai, Bengbu, Huaibei, Qingdao and Beijing among other cities the north, and points to the south including Jingdezhen, Yingtan, Fuzhou, Xiamen, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and Kunming.

Now the Hefei-Fuzhou passenger designed line and the Hangzhou-Huangshan High Speed Railway makes Huangshan become a high-speed rail junction.Travel to Hefei, Nanjing, and Hangzhou is a very easy and convenient thing.

Road

Huangshan is now a highway junction city. The Huizhou-Hangzhou Expressway runs east to Hanghzou. The Hefei-Tongling-Huangshan Expressway heads north to Tongling on the Yangtze River and then to Hefei, the Anhui provincial capital. The Huangshan-Taling-Taolin Expressway extends southwest to Wuyuan in Jiangxi Province. The Huangshan-Quzhou-Nanping Expressway, currently under construction, will run southeast through Zhejiang Province to Nanping in Fujian Province.

Natural Resources

Mount Huangshan has a balanced ecosystem. The vertical distribution of forest coverage rate is 84.7%, the vegetation coverage rate is 93%. There are many higher plants, which includes 222 families 827 genera and 1805 species. For example, Mount Huangshan pine, Mount Huangshan Rhododendron, Magnolia, Magnolia sieboldii, Taxus chinensis, Tsuga chinensis and other rare plants.There are 28 plants that are first found and named in Mount Huangshan.  The most famous is "Mount Huangshan Mao Feng Tea” and "Mount Huangshan Ganoderma medicine”.

Animal

Mount Huangshan is an ideal place for animal habitat and reproduction. There are 24 species of fish, 21 amphibians, 48 reptiles, 176 birds and 54 mammals. The main red billed Leiothrix, Garrulax poecilorhynchus, Silver Pheasant, monkeys, deer, wild goats, black deer, serow, clouded leopard, rare fowls and strange animals. Which belong to the national animal protection are: leopard, leopard, black deer, deer, Elliot's pheasant, white stork.

Rare birds: Garrulax poecilorhynchus, red billed Leiothrix, nighthawks, dollarbird, jade, white breasted swallow, thrush, yellow rumped warbler, dark green Xiang eye.

Mineral resources in Huangshan

a lot of limestone, clay, granite, quartzite, serpentine and stone and other building materials, gold, copper, molybdenum, tungsten, antimony, beryllium, niobium, tantalum, lead, uranium and other nonferrous metal minerals,  rare metal minerals, bentonite, zeolite, sulfur, barite, quartz, and other non-metallic mineral resources.

History & Culture

Huangshan Culture is from the Hui (short for Anthui) culture , which is one of China’s three regional cultures ( Tibetology, Dunhuangology and the culture of Huizhou), which covers philosophy, economics, history, medicine, science and art.

There is a ancient saying to describe Ancient Huizhou "the mountain is not remote, there are many intellectuals even the area is not big,”At the wartimes of Central Plains, there has become a the place to gather various types of talent. And it is not only a paradise to cultivate moral character, but also a cradle of famous people. For example, Bi Sheng, the founder of movable type printing, Zhu Xi, the master of the Song dynasty, Wang Daokun, the famous dramatist, Jiang Jian, the founder of the Xin'an School of Art, philosopher Dai Zhen, Wang Maoyin, the  Financier(the only Chinese mentioned in Marx's Capital Theory)and others.

At the same time, the Hui merchants flourished and formed a unique genre of cultural schools such as Xin'an Science, Xin'an Medicine, Xin'an School of Painting, Huizhou bonsai, Huizhou Inkstone, Huizhou Architecture, Huizhou, Huiqian, Anhui Opera and Anhui Cuisine.

Until today, Huangshan still have ancient bridge, ancient tower, ancient pavilion, ancient shrine, ancient arch, which is like a natural history museum.

Economy

Tea production in Huangshan is a major aspect of the region’s economy, and the majority of farming takes place in an area referred to as Yellow Mountain, home to many assortments of green tea. The most famous of the area – and one of China’s most famous – is the Huangshan Maofeng.

Keemun tea is produced in Qimen County, and the tea is named for the county. Mao feng, a green tea, is produced in neighboring counties. Tourism, centered on Mount Huang and including other scenic and historic sites (such as Xidi and Hongcun), is an important part of the Huangshan economy.

Tourism

Huangshan city is very famous for its rich tourism. The natural tourist and humane tourist resources help build up tourism as a more important pillar of the economy of the city. At present, it has the world double heritage site, Yellow Mountain Scenic Area which is world famous for natural landscape; has the world cultural heritage sites Xidi Village and Hongcun Village which are filled with the influence of  Hui Culture. Among numerous prefecture-level cities, Huangshan is the only one which has two world heritages in China; hence, this become an important resource for Huangshan City to build modern international tourism city.

In recent years, the development of Huangshan tourism is rapid and bright, which helps Huangshan achieve huge economic value. Huangshan Cuisine

The Cuisine of Huangshan in Anhui Province, often called Anhui Cuisine, is one of the eight major cuisines of China. Generally Hui Cuisine is slightly spicy, and normally salty. A large amount of ingredients used in Anhui Cuisine comes from Huangshan Mountain. The features of Anhui Cuisine are elaborate choice of ingredients and different cooking styles. The taste, color, and appearance of each dish is worthy taking attention. The local people think that the appearance of dishes is equally as important as taste.
