Why is Tianluokeng Tulou Cluster So Special?

Tianluokeng Tulou Cluster is a masterpiece of traditional Chinese residential buildings, which embodies the wisdom of ancient Chinese people and is the unique architectural art treasure of the Chinese nation. Tianluokeng Tulou Cluster mainly consists of one square Tulou, three round Tulou and one oval Tulou, which are Buyun Tulou, Zhenchang Tulou, Ruiyun Tulou and Hechang Tulou.

Brief Introduction of Tulou

A tulou is usually a large, enclosed and fortified earth building, most commonly rectangular or circular in configuration, with very thick load-bearing rammed earth walls between three and five stories high and housing up to 800 people. Smaller interior buildings are often enclosed by these huge peripheral walls which can contain halls, storehouses, wells and living areas, the whole structure resembling a small fortified city.

Bu Yun Tulou

The first Tulou in Tianluokeng Tulou Cluster is called Bu Yun Tulou, which is a square building located in the center of the Tulou Cluster. It was built in Qing Dynasty. Bu Yun Tulou is three floors high, 26 rooms on each floor. It’s named Bu Yun, which means that future generations will make a success in official career.

Wenchang Tulou

Wenchang Tulou was the last building, which built in 1966. To be exact, it is an oval building with three floors and each floor has 32 rooms.

The Legend of Tianluokeng Tulou Cluster

During the Qing Dynasty, it is said that a young duck farmer came here. He made full use of the geographical advantages of rivers and mud fields which full of snails, as well as the dense forests, and continued to expand his duck reproduction, making the first gold for himself, then he build the Tulou here.
