Bus

Take regular bus from Beimen Tourist Bus Station Dawukou, Huinong, Hongguozi, Rujigou, Longhu, Pingluo and Yaofu, and get off at Shahu.

There are regular buses from Beimen Tourist Bus Station to Sand Lake Scenic Resort. The bus departs every 30 minutes from 8:00 to 10:30 and the returning bus from 13:00 to 18:00.

Best Time to Visit

The best time to visit Sand Lake is late Spring or early Summer. All activities on the lake and beach will stop at the end of November when the lake starts to freeze.

Attention

When visiting Sand Lake in summer make sure to bring sun block and a hat with you as it is extremely easy to burn under the harsh desert sun.

What to do

First time visitors to a desert can ride a camel for a mere 20 RMB across a range of sand dunes, while the more adventurous can rent jeeps or motorbikes and race across the sandy plains. Another fun, attraction are the sand slides, which take you down a fairly steep slope.

Every year during spring and autumn, over one million migratory birds stop here. The Bird-watching Tower, equipped with best telescope available, holds hundreds of people. This is a paradise for the birdwatcher as well as a great variety of birds, including white cranes, black cranes, red-crowned cranes, swans, wild ducks and mandarin ducks.
