Geography

Qianxinan Buyi and Miao autonomous prefecture is located at the junction of three provinces of GuizhouYunnan and Guangxi, southwest of Guizhou province, southeast of Yunnan-Guizhou plateau, the upstream of Pearl river. Qianxinan is 210 kilometers long from east to west and 177 kilometers wide from south to north, covering a total area of 16804 square kilometers. It borders Luodian county of Qiannan prefecture in the east, connects Longlin, Tianlin and Leye counties in Guangxi across the river in the south, adjoins Fuyuan county and Luoping county in Yunnan , as well as Liupanshui city in the west. 

Qianxinan prefecture, belonging to Nanpanjiang and Beipanjiang river basin of Pearl river system, is a typical mountainous area with low latitude and high altitude. The whole terrain is high in the west and low in the east, high in the north and low in the south. The highest point is at the Qishe and Pengzha plateau peak of Xingyi city, 2207.2 meters above sea level; The lowest point is Daluo estuary by Hongshui river in Wangmo county, 275 meters above sea level, with a height difference of 1932.2 meters, and most of them are between 1000 meters and 2000 meters above sea level. Within the prefecture, the terrain is undulating and the landform is complex, which can be divided into five different landform areas. Soil is mostly acidic and slightly acidic red yellow soil.

Climate

Qianxinan Buyi and Miao Autonomous Prefecture enjoys a subtropical monsoon humid climate. For many years, the annual average temperature is 13.8-19.4℃. The average temperature in January is 7.1℃ and the extreme minimum temperature of -8.9℃(occurred in Anlong County on February 14, 1968); In July, average temperature is 23℃ and extreme maximum temperature of 40.2 ℃(occurred in Ceheng county on April 11, 2006). The average annual rainfall is 1352.8 mm, and the average annual rainfall days are 189 days, maximum of 216 days (in 1981) and minimum of 137 days ( in 2009). The extreme annual maximum rainfall is 2047.8 mm (in Qinglong county in 1965), and the extreme annual minimum rainfall is 737.1 mm (in Xingren city in 1989). Rainfall is concentrated from may to September, with the most in June.

Best Time to Visit

Qianxinan prefecture is suitable for tourism in four seasons. It is warm in spring, and flowers are in bloom at that time; Comfortable in summer without too much hot and dry feeling; And cool and dry in autumn, which is the best tourism season. In winter, there is no severe cold, making Qianxinan prefecture one of the alternative choices for winter travel.

Ethnic Culture

Qianxinan is a multi-ethnic autonomous prefecture in the southwest of Guizhou Province. There are 35 ethnic groups within Qianxinan prefecture such as BouyeiMiao, Han, YaoGelaoHui and the like. Therefore, in addition to enjoying the scenery, travelers can also explore the rich and colorful folklore and culture of the different ethnic groups living in the area. 

Transportation

You can get to Qianxinan by air, train or long-distance bus. Xingyi Wanfenglin Airport opened the flights from Xingyi to Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Chongqing, Kunming, Lijiang, Guiyang and other cities. Within the territory of Qianxinan, railways include Nankun(Nanning-Kunming) railway line and Weihong(Weishe Town of Xingyi-Hongguo Town of Liupanshui) line, the length of Nankun line in Qianxinan is 187 kilometers and Weihong line of 9 kilometers. In addition, there are Shanghai-Kunming expressway, Shantou-Kunming expressway, national highway 342 and national highway 320 in Qianxinan, among which the Shanghai-Kunming expressway is 65 kilometers long and the Shantou-Kunming expressway is 127 kilometers long. Besides, the Qingxing(Qinglong-Xingyi) expressway in Qianxinan has been completed and opened to traffic, and the Wangan(Wangmo-Anlong) expressway, which is 69 kilometers long, has been completed and opened to traffic at the end of December 2015.

History

Qianxinan prefecture has a long history dating back to the Shang dynasty. It was called Guifang kingdom(鬼方国) in the Shang dynasty. From the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period to Qing dynasty, Han dynasty and Jin dynasties, it had different names, namely Yelang kingdom, Zangke Prefecture(牂牁郡), Yelang County, Yelang Prefecture(夜郎郡), Xinggu Prefecture(兴古郡). Later on, it experienced the northern and southern dynasties, Tang, Song, Yuan, Ming, Qing, Republic of China, and after the founding of new China, until September 21, 1981, Xingyi prefecture was abolished and Qianxinan Buyi and Miao autonomous prefecture was established. On May 1, 1982, the people's government of Qianxinan Buyi and Miao autonomous prefecture was formally established, and the seat of government was stationed in Xingyi county. On November 6, 1987, with the approval of the state council, Xingyi county was abolished and Xingyi city was established. The seat of government also became Xingyi city.
