Why is Bao’s Family Garden So Special?

Bao’s Family Garden is in Shexian, Huangshan, Anhui Province,   built in the Qing Dynasty (1644~1911). It was one of the three most famous private gardens in southern China in the Qianlong Period (1735~1796) and Jiaqing Period (1796~1820). It includes 500 yards  (460 meters) away from Tangyue Memorial Archway. At present, its potted landscapes of different sizes and shapes are very famous and splendid.

Miniascapes

The miniascape here is in Huizhou style, which develops from the Tang Dynasty (618~907) and become popular in the Ming Dynasty (1368~1644) and the Qing Dynasty (1644~1911). Stones, flowers and trees are the main parts of the miniascapes.  Different miniascapes have different names according to their features and characteristics. The potted miniascapes are valued as “solid paintings” and “silent poetries”and it regarded as one of the traditional Chinese arts. Plants and stones are arranged in a pot, and lifelike landscapes are build up in your mind. There are nearly 10,000 potted landscapes in Bao’s Family Garden. Quaintness and grace are not enough to describe its beauty.
