Welcome to Ningbo! Your local guide and driver will greet you at Ningbo Airport, train station, or your hotel before embarking on an exciting day of exploration. (Note: The order of attractions may be adjusted based on your schedule and interests.)
-
Tianyi Pavilion (Tianyige Museum):
Begin with a visit to the oldest private library in Asia — a 400-year-old treasure trove established by the Fan family. Wander through its ancient halls, which house over 300,000 rare books, and admire the traditional Chinese techniques used to prevent fire and moisture damage. Stroll through the serene garden adorned with sculptures, calligraphy, and paintings, embracing the antique ambiance of old China. -
Tianyi Square:
Next, head to Ningbo’s bustling CBD. Enjoy a leisurely walk through this modern hub, where high-rise buildings, Western-style architecture, a Gothic church, and ancient Chinese structures stand side by side. Observe the daily rhythm of Ningbo locals in this dynamic part of the city. -
Ningbo Museum:
Designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Wang Shu, Ningbo Museum’s exterior features tiles from old Ningbo buildings. Step inside to journey through the city’s history — from the Hemudu era to its present-day status as an international port city. Explore over 60,000 artifacts including ceramics, bronze ware, jade carvings, and ancient calligraphy. Don’t miss the immersive recreation of Ningbo’s 20th-century streetscape. -
The Old Bund:
Conclude the day at China’s earliest Bund, established in 1844 — predating even the famous Shanghai Bund. Walk along the waterfront to admire well-preserved buildings with British, French, and Dutch influences: former consulates, churches, banks, and post offices. Enjoy the contrast between historic charm and modern nightlife, with bars, cafes, and restaurants lining the streets.
After the tour, your guide will escort you to your downtown hotel for check-in. Enjoy a restful night!
Day 2: Historical & Cultural Exploration of Ningbo (B, L)
After breakfast, your guide and driver will pick you up for another day of discovery:
-
Former Residence of Chiang Kai-shek:
Explore the home of this significant political and military figure in Chinese history. Visit the Fenghao House — where Chiang married his first wife — and the Yutai Salt Shop, his birthplace. Discover the Little Western-style House built in 1930, and see Chiang’s personal calligraphy and family heirlooms. Walk through the Wenchang Pavilion, Wuling School, and Wulin Gate, each rich with stories of the Chiang family’s legacy. -
Xuedou Temple:
Nestled on Xuedou Mountain, this 1,700-year-old Buddhist temple is the sacred ashram of Maitreya Buddha. Admire the world’s tallest sitting Maitreya statue — a magnificent copper figure standing 56.74 meters high. Explore the temple’s grand halls, ancient pavilions, and serene ponds, and don’t miss the 2,200-year-old ginkgo trees standing proudly in front of the Hall of Heavenly Kings. -
Nantang Old Street:
Conclude your tour with a visit to Nantang Old Street — a 300-meter stretch of traditional buildings from the Ming and Qing dynasties. Wander past dark-brick houses with flying eaves and wooden doors, alongside a flowing river. Sample local delicacies, shop for souvenirs, and absorb the lively street atmosphere.
