10 Days Guizhou and Guangxi Ethnic Minority Discovery

Guizhou is a multi-ethnic province located in southwest China, where minority groups account for more than 37% of the population. During this tour, we will pay a visit to the magnificent Huangguoshu Waterfall, and then spend six days to explore the minority villages in Guizhou. After that, continue the tour to Longsheng to visit the spectacular Longji rice terraces and also the minority villages here.

Day 1 Guiyang Arrival

Welcome to Guiyang! Upon your arrival, tour guide will pick you up from Guiyang airport or train station and transfer to your hotel. Explore this city at leisure.

Day 2 Guiyang – Anshun – Guiyang

Sightseeing and Activities: Huangguoshu Waterfall, Tunbao Village
Accommodation: Guiyang

Have the breakfast at hotel, then drive about 2.5 hours to Huangguoshu Waterfall, which is one of the largest waterfalls in China and East Asia located on the Baishui River in Anshun. The main waterfall is 67 m high and 83.3 m wide and a 134-meter-long curtain cave lies secretly behind the main fall.

After the visit, head to the Tunbao Village in Tianlong. Tianlong Village is one of these ancient Tun-Bao settlements built during the reign of Emperor Hongwu by the descendants of the soldiers of the expeditionary troops of the Ming Dynasty.

After the tour, drive back to Guiyang city for overnight.

Day 3 Guiyang – Kaili

Sightseeing and Activities: Wanba Gejia Village, Jidao Miao Village

Today we will drive about 2 hours to Kaili and check in hotel. After luggage settlement, continue the drive to visit Wanba Gejia Village. Gejia people is a branch of Miao minority. Then move on to Jidao Miao Village to explore the culture of Miao people.

Day 4 Kaili – Xijiang

Sightseeing and Activities: Shidong Piantou Miao Village, Xijiang Miao Village

Today we will drive about 2 hours to explore Shidong Piantou Miao Village which is famous for Sisters’ Meal Festival. Also we can visit a local silver workshop to see how Miao people product their silverwares. After that, drive another 2 hours to visit Xijiang Miao Village, the largest Miao village in Asia. There are 12 natural villages, 1200 families and 6000 people, who dwell in wooden houses built by their hands.

Day 5 Xijiang – Rongjiang

Sightseeing and Activities: Xijiang Miao Folk Museum, Paika Miao Village, Datang Miao Village, Water granary collection, Shiqiao Miao Village

In the morning, visit Xijiang Miao Folk Museum. Then head to Paika Miao Village to see Lusheng making presentation. After that, we will arrive at Datang Xinqiao Miao Village and if lucky we can see a row of girls dressed in mini-shirts dancing to welcome visitors. In this village, learn different Miao customs and also visit Water granary collection which is used for storing grains and preventing foods from fire damage.

The last stop is Shiqiao Miao Village. The Miao people there still lives a self-sufficient living style. The village is renowned for traditional paper-making. It is a nice place to experience and learn the traditional paper-making.

Day 6 Rongjiang – Zhaoxing

Sightseeing and Activities: Biasha Miao Village, Zhaoxing Dong Village

After breakfast, head to Basha Miao Village, which is famed for being China’s last tribe of gunmen. Hidden away in a forest, Basha residents still live in their wooden houses, practice centuries-old customs and have their own unique beliefs.

After that, continue the drive to Zhaoxing Dong Village, which is one of the biggest Dong minority villages in China, and also the center of the Dong ethnic folk cultures. All the buildings in the village are wooden-stilt houses. In Zhaoxing Dong Village, there are five drum towers, which are known far and wide for their unique styles.

Day 7 Zhaoxing

Sightseeing and Activities: Zhaoxing Dong Village, Tang’an Dong People’s Village, Shage Dong Village
Accommodation: Zhaoxing

In the morning, stroll around Zhaoxing Dong Village and have a local family visit. In the afternoon, head to Tang’an Dong Village. With a long history of over 700 years, it is a unique eco-museum of Dong Minority which was reputed as “one of the Top 6 Ancient Villages in China”, “the biggest living museum of Dong Minority”, “the cradle of ancient music” and “the land of festivals”.

After that, hike about 3 hours to Shage Dong Village and then back to Zhaoxing Dong Village.

Day 8 Zhaoxing – Sanjiang

Sightseeing and Activities: local minority market, Chengyang Wind and Rain Bridge
Accommodation: Sanjiang
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch

After breakfast, visit the local minority market. Then drive about 3 hours to Sanjiang and have lunch here. In the afternoon, visit Chengyang Wind and Rain Bridge, a wonder of Dong minority. Stay at Chengyang for overnight.

Day 9 Sanjiang – Longsheng – Guilin

Sightseeing and Activities: Longji Rice Terraces, ethnic groups
Accommodation: Guilin
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch

Today we will drive to Longsheng and visit Dragon’s Backbone – Rice Terraces. It was reputed as “an absolute one under the heaven and the first one in the world”. Then visit the villages of Yao people and Zhuang people to experience the ethnic cultures and lifestyle.

After the visit, drive to Guilin and check in hotel.

Day 10 Guilin Departure
