Tiantangzhai Mountain Scenic Area in Luan City
Tiantangzhai is located where Anhui’s Jinzhai County and Hubei's Luotian County meet and is one of the major attractions of the Dabie Mountains. The scenic area is named after the main peak, Tiantangzhai, which is also called Tiantang Summit. It is the second-highest summit in the Dabie Mountains and serves as the divide between the Yangtze and Huai River watersheds.

Tiantangzhai Mountain Scenic Area in Luan City
Tiantangzhai Scenic Area,136km away from downtown of Lu’an, nestles in the hinterland of Dabie Mountain on the southwestern corner of Jinzhai county. It is a national nature reserve and a national forest park.
Introduction of Tiantangzhai Mountain Scenic Area
The highest peak has an altitude of 1,729.13 meters, being the second-highest in Dabie Mountain. The scenic zone boasts many historical sites, lofty and precipitous peaks, dense forests and elegant bamboo forests, deep pools and groups of waterfalls, strange pines and rocks.
The towering peaks here are enveloped in clouds all year around. The thundering 108 relay-style waterfalls constitute an awe-inspiring natural scene unique in East China. Of them, 18 have a fall of more than 50 meters. The White Horse Grand Canyon Scenic Area, a newly-developed one in the Tiantangzhai Scenic Area, is the place where all the water rushing down the mountain meets, thus forming the headwaters of the Huaihe River.
In addition to these breathtaking beautiful landscapes, the long history, red culture, simple-hearted locals and the well-preserved natural ecological environment are also very attractive to tourists. Now the Tiantangzhai Scenic Area has become an ideal place for tourists to go close to nature.
Useful Travel Tips
- You’d better spare at least two days to visit Tiantangzhai Scenic Area since it is a little far and there is a lot to see. Only one day maybe not enough to appreciate all the scenes. There are many local hotels and restaurants both in the scenic area and outside scenic spots around the entrance, where you can stay overnight and have meals.
- After arriving at Jade Discharging Waterfall, there are two ways to go to the main peak. Visitors may choose to take the cableway or to climb the mountain on your own. Please note that there is still a long way to go to arrive at the top of the mountain after you get off the cableway.
- If you just have one day, you may take the sightseeing bus, get off at the middle of the mountain to visit the famous waterfalls first and then go upward to the main peak. Afterward you may consider going to the lower part of the mountain if you have extra time.
How to Get There
- At Fujiapo long-distance bus station in Wuhan, there is a direct tourist bus to Tiantangzhai at 14:00 every day.
- There is a high-speed railway station here. There are many trains passing by. Shanghai, Wuhan, Hefei, Nanjing, Changsha and other places can all get there by train or high-speed rail. Then take the bus to Meishan town at the bus station next to the railway station. There are buses to Tiantangzhai in Meishan town.
- Car:
1. Jinzhai bus station in Meishan town starts at 6:30, 7:30, 12:00 and 13:00 every day. The journey is about 3 hours. The fare is 30 yuan.
2. Lu’an bus terminal departs at 7:30 and 12:30 every day. The journey is about 4 hours. The fare is 45 yuan.
3. Take the bus directly to Tiantangzhai at Hefei tourist bus station, leaving at 7:20 and 12:30 every day. The journey from Hefei to Tiantangzhai is about 5 hours, and the tickets are 85 yuan.
