Why is Shanghai Auto Museum so Special?

The Shanghai Auto Museum was designed by the Architectural Design & Research Institute of Tongji University and IFB from Germany. The museum is China’s first dedicated auto museum. It features a display of about 70 classic automobiles and automobile history and development.

Where is Shanghai Auto Museum?

The Shanghai Auto Museum is located in Anting, Jiading District in Shanghai.

How to Get There?

  • Take Metro Line 11 and get off at Anting Station. Get out from Exit 2 and then transfer to Jiading 112, Jiading 116 or Anhong Line and get off at Boyuanlu Moyunanlu Station. Then walk south for about 400 m (437 yards) to the northwest gate of the museum.

History of Shanghai Auto Museum

With more than 400 million yuan’s investment, it was completed on Oct. 24th, 2006, and opened to the public on Jan. 17th, 2007.
As Shanghai’s first professional museum that combines history, profiles, technology, and originality of automobiles. Featuring a history museum, a modern technology exhibition hall, a vintage auto collection museum, and a brand culture exhibition hall, Shanghai Auto Museum presents to the public a brand new comprehensive idea.

Pavilion

First Floor – History Pavilion

Located on the first floor, the history museum depicts the major events of automobile development in eight theme museums in the form of vehicle models, pictures, words, etc. More than 20 carefully selected classic cars on display vividly show how cars change human life.

Second Floor – Collection Pavilion

The collection is the essence of Shanghai Automobile Museum. At the entrance, there are several rows of exquisite models. As you move on, you can see nearly 40 colorful antique cars, some of which have strange appearance. From 1902 to 1977, these cars covered about 20 famous automobile brands in Europe and America. Among them, the most precious exhibits are the three wheel Benz patent car in the 19th century, the Rolls Royce phantom in the 1930s, the lovely Volkswagen dove in the 1950s and the BMW isetta in the 1960s.

In addition, there are more than 30 oil filling equipment exhibits, from manual oil pump to dial oil pump, which fully illustrates the development of automobile gas stations.

Third Floor – Automobile Exploration Pavilion

The automobile exploration hall on the third floor takes automobile science popularization as the theme. Young people and car enthusiasts can go there to study the history, culture and science of cars. Visitors can see a Volkswagen divided into several parts and understand the internal structure of the car. They can also learn to design and assemble cars or experience simulated driving. Provide a remote control car, 15 yuan for 8 minutes.

3.Audio Guide Device: CNY 20 for rent, a deposit of CNY 200 is required

4.Opening Hours: 9:30 to 16:30 from Tuesday to Sunday; ticketing stops at 16:00, Closed on Monday
