Everest Base Camp: refers to the living area set up by viewing the environment of the core area of Qomolangma Peak. There are two in China. The west base camp is located in Zhaxzong Township, Dingri County, Xigaze District, Tibet Autonomous Region (西藏自治区日喀则地区定日县扎西宗乡), and the east base camp is located in the Gamagou area, Karta County, Dingri County(Kaamo Tsangpo valley,定日县曲当乡的嘎玛沟), at an altitude of 5,200 meters. It is about 19 kilometers away from the top of Qomolangma Peak and is a national 5A-level tourist area.

Everest base camps refers generally to two base camps on opposite sides of Mount Everest: South Base Camp is in Nepal at an altitude of 5,364 metres (17,598 ft) (28°0′26″N 86°51′34″E), while North Base Camp is in Tibet, China at 5,150 metres (16,900 ft) (28°8′29″N 86°51′5″E). Everest is the tallest mountain on the planet and at the top it measures 8,848m, making it the highest of only 14 mountains above the 8,000m mark.

Best Time to Mount Everest

April-May and September-October are the best periods to visit Mount Everest. Generally, most travelers choose to set off from Lhasa and drive to Everest Base Camp(at the altitude of 5,200m). On the way, they can visit Yamdrok Lake, Karola Glacier, Tashilhunpo Monastery, etc.

How to Get Necessary Travel Documents in Tibet?

Firstly, you need to book a guided tour, either private or group tour, with a Tibet travel agency. Then you need to get Chinese tourist visa yourself in your country and email your passport page, Chines visa page to your travel consultants to apply for Tibet Travel Permit. After you take Tibet train or fly to Lhasa, later our Tibetan guide will help you get Alien’s Travel Permit (50CNY) before heading to Qomolangma (Tibetan name for Everest) National Nature Preserve. The last thing to take care of is the entrance fee of EBC, which sets you back 90CNY (low season) and 180 CNY (high season).

How to Get to Everest Base Camp in Tibet?

The only way that foreigners can go to Tibet or Everest Base Camp Region is by arranging an organized tour through a travel agency. There are NO exceptions. In order to go to Mt Everest, you need to contact a travel agency in advance, preferably owned by Tibetans and based in Tibet, and have them arrange the required travel permits, tour guide, private vehicle and driver. How to get to Everest from Lhasa?

Everest Base Camp Region (EBC), elevation 5100 meters, is over 800 kilometers (500 miles) southwest of Lhasa. Most people prefer to visit the many amazing sights along the way to EBC such as Yamdrok Lake, Gyantse, Shigatse and Sakya Monastery. 

New Regulation at Everest Base Camp

A new government regulation as of January 2019 states that all travelers going to the Everest Base Camp region can only go as far Rongphu (Rongbuk) Monastery. To go beyond this point, you will require either a trekking or climbing permit, which will add many thousands of $$$ to your journey price. Don’t worry, the view of Everest from Rongphu is still amazing!
