Hongshan Lake in Anshun
Hongshan Lake is located in Anshun City, Guizhou Province, and serves as a popular leisure destination for local residents. Originally an artificial lake, also known as Hongshan Reservoir, it was designated a national 4A-level tourist attraction on November 10, 2017, by the Guizhou Provincial Tourism Development Commission. As the largest wetland in Anshun, Hongshan Lake is often referred to as the “City Reception Hall.”
Scenic Area Overview
As the largest wetland in Anshun, Hongshan Lake has long been a favored spot for citizens to relax and exercise, earning the nickname “City Living Room.” In recent years, the Anshun municipal government has continuously renovated the scenic area surrounding the lake, enhancing the city’s livability and adding to Anshun’s appeal.
With the ongoing transformation and upgrade of the tourism industry, the infrastructure of Hongshan Lake Park has gradually improved, enabling Anshun’s tourism sector to diversify and reduce its reliance on traditional attractions while developing urban spaces. Today, Hongshan Lake Park is not only an ideal place for local leisure and entertainment but also a must-visit destination for tourists, becoming a beautiful urban symbol.
The 4-kilometer-long lakeside road sees many citizens engaging in fitness activities or enjoying music and relaxation in roadside pavilions.
According to Hu Qiang, around 30,000 people visit Hongshan Lake daily, especially during the morning and evening hours. “Living in Anshun is simply beautiful; it’s truly a pleasure!” During an interview, a couple from Henan, who were honeymooning in Anshun, expressed their contentment while sitting in a lakeside pavilion along the Peach Blossom Path, enjoying the scenic views.
While citizens appreciate the beauty of Hongshan Lake as it is, Anshun is planning significant improvements to create an even more beautiful Hongshan Lake Park and a more leisurely living environment.
On July 27, city leaders visited Hongshan Lake to assess construction conditions and proposed developing the lake to meet the standards of a 4A-level park, holding a special meeting on-site.
It has been announced that expansions and improvements will be made to Hongshan Lake based on existing facilities, adhering to the 4A scenic area standards. Plans include the creation of Shishan Mountain Park, construction of approximately 4.5 kilometers of green pathways, and enhancements in areas from Jiukong Bridge to Huoshaozhai. Additionally, a section of ecological wetland will be developed into a wetland park.
Hu Qiang noted that this plan introduces the concept of “green pathways” for the first time in the province, featuring lush greenery along both sides of the road, dedicated to pedestrians and non-motorized vehicles. “Walking on such paths allows for close contact with nature, breathing in the fragrances of leaves and flowers.”
“This plan is expected to be implemented by 2016, making Hongshan Lake one of the most beautiful places in Anshun and truly becoming the city’s ‘Reception Hall,'” Hu Qiang said. Currently, various departments in Anshun City and Xixiu District are beginning preliminary planning and budgeting for the construction project.
