East China city Jiaxing to host folk culture festival

The city of Jiaxing in east China’s Zhejiang Province, a place famous for “zong zi,” glutinous rice dumplings, will hold a folk culture festival around the upcoming Dragon Boat Festival which falls on June 7 this year, local authorities said.

The cultural festival will start in late May and last until early June. Traditional activities such as dragon boat racing, rice dumpling making, sachet making and temple fairs will be held.

Cities along the Grand Canal will also be invited to this year’s festival to present their folk culture, local specialties and intangible cultural heritage from June 7 to 9.

The Dragon Boat Festival is celebrated on the fifth day of the fifth month of the year according to the Chinese lunar calendar.
