Tianhou Temple Folk-custom Temple Fair
Time: The first three days of the first lunar month
There are diverse activities in this activity like bell striking ritual on Chinese New Year's Eve, giving red waistbands and gifts to friends who welcome their birth year, sending gifts, competition of folk customs photography, "welcome New Year" couplets collecting, lantern riddle contests, paper cutting match, etc.
Qingdao Radish Activity
Time: From the 9th to 15th day of the first lunar month
There is a saying in among people that is “eating radish on the 9th day of the first lunar month, you would not suffer from toothache and any diseases”. The local Taoist temple Yunxi Temple is famous for planting good crispy and big radishes so that radishes become the main items in temple fair. Gradually, temple fair is regarded as “radish fair”. There are radish artistic carving contests and folk handicraft making competitions during the fair. So it is the first influential folk festival after the Spring Festival.
Haiyun Temple Fair
Time: From the 16th 18th day of the first lunar month
Haiyun Temple Fair falls on the 16th of the first lunar month. Because there are a lot of hawthorn sugar balls being sold during the fair so that it is also called Haiyun Temple Sugar Ball Fair. The fair was restarted to be celebrated in 1986. There are all sorts of folk art activities like shadow puppets, yanko contest, gong and drum match, paper cutting, opera performances like Maotune and Liutune, etc.
Qingdao Cherry Blossom Fair
Time: From early April to early May
The cherry flowers in Zhongshan Park are the most characteristic scenic spots there. It gets the fame of “the sea flower of east park”. You appreciate cherry flowers here from April 10th to May 1st.
Qingdao Ocean Day
Time: Late June to mid-May
As an important festival in Qingdao, Qingdao Ocean Day is the only ocean themed festival in China. The activity covers rich content covering marine science and technology, marine sports, marine culture, marine tourism, marine food, etc.
Qingdao International Beer Festival
Time: The second weekend of August and lasting 16 days
During the festival, the whole city is in great revelry. Beer drinking competitions, parties, entertainment and trade exhibitions stimulate interest. Dozens of beer companies from all over the world join the festival. Beer products and cultures from Germany and Korea are introduced into China, and interaction which enriches the Chinese beer market and enhances the cooperation of Chinese and foreign beer companies.
