Climate of Hotan

Located in a temperate zone, with cold desert climate , Hotan views only a mean annual total of only 36.5 millimeter of precipitation which falls on 17.3 days of the year. Because of its southerly location in Xinjiang which is just north of the Kunlun Mountains, Hotan is one of the warmest places in the region, with averagely high temperatures remaining beyond freezing temperature throughout the year.

As for monthly 24-hour average temperature, it varies from −4.4 °C in January to 25.6 °C in July, with the annual mean of 12.54 °C . The temperature variation is averaging 12.3 °C annually. Hotan merely receives 2,587 hours of bright sunshine averagely each year, which is fairly low in the Region.

Hotan climate is characterized by sandstorm and dust weather in springs as well as hot and dry summers, with annual average rainfall evaporation of 2, 480 mm. Four seasons experience much sand and dust weather, with each year more than 220 days. During which thick dust weather accounts for about 60 days.

Advice

Parts of Xinjiang are located in high election so that ultraviolet radiation is strong, so please prepare some sun block or other anti-sunburn stuff. Because of dry climate there, you are not recommended to were contact lenses, especially some areas may have poor accommodation conditions so that it is not convenient to wash them. There are large temperature differences between day and night so that you had better take enough clothes with you.

The Best Time to Visit Hotan

August and September are the best time to visit Hotan. Located in the Taklimakan Desert, Hotan belongs to continental desert climate of the warm temperate zone. The whole year sees little rain and many days with dust weather.

August and September are the golden time for ripe melons and fruit mature, with charming scenery, pleasant weather and agreeable fruit fragrance. And this period comes with large temperature differences between day and night.
