Yaoli Ancient Town, which literally means “inside the kiln of ceramic making,” is an ancient town built in the late West Han Dynasty (202 BC-8 AD). Its abundance in Kaolin, a special type of clay for making porcelain, made it the famed cradle of Jingdezhen ceramics.

Independent Travel

You take direct Bus Route Jingdezhen-Yaoli (景德镇-瑶里 in Chinese) at Jingdezhen Licunduan Bus Station (里村短途汽车站). There are two buses running every day. One starts off at 7:30am and arrives in Yaoli Village at 9:30am; the other starts off at 2:00pm and arrives in Yaoli Village at 4:00pm. Return buses from Yaoli to Jingdezhen are only two as well, at 9:00am and 4:00pm.

Ming and Qing Commercial Street

Ming and Qing Commercial Street is one of the most prosperous commercial streets in the town, with a total length of more than 1000 meters. It is divided into upper street, middle street and lower street three parts. There are hundreds of traditional shops on both sides of the street, most of them are well preserved.

Chen Yi’s Former Residence

It is the place where the famous revolutionist Chen Yi once worked and lived. Now it is Chen Yi picture exhibition hall, which tells the life experience of Mr. Cheng Yi.

The Ancestral Hall of Zhang Family

The Ancestral Hall of Zhang Family was built at the end of Tang Dynasty, but later it was destroyed by war. What we see now is the rebuild one, which was build in Ming Dynasty.  The hall covers an area of 1999 square meters, you can find a moon shape lake in front of the hall.
