Overview

Baixianbao Hui Township (新添堡回族乡) is located in the southern part of Huining County (会宁县), Baiyin City (白银市), Gansu Province (甘肃省). The township is bordered to the east by Zhajiazuo Township (翟家所乡), to the south by Houjiachuan Township (侯家川乡), to the west by Zhongchuan Township (中川乡), and to the north by Huishi Town (会师镇). The total administrative area of Baixianbao is 218 square kilometers.

History

  • Qing Dynasty: The area was named Baixianbao after a fortress was built on the nearby mountain.
  • Republic of China Era: On August 12, 1949, it was incorporated into the jurisdiction of District Two (二区).
  • 1952: Established as the Xin Tian Hui Autonomous Region (新添回族自治区).
  • 1958: Renamed Xin Tian Commune (新添公社).
  • 1981: Renamed Xin Tian Hui Commune (新添回族公社).
  • 1983: Renamed Baixianbao Hui Township (新添堡回族乡).

Location

Baixianbao Hui Township is located in the southern part of Huining County, with administrative borders extending to Zhajiazuo Township to the east, Houjiachuan Township to the south, Zhongchuan Township to the west, and Huishi Town to the north. The total administrative area is 218 square kilometers.

Topography

The township lies in the Loess Plateau hilly and gully region of Central Longnan (陇中黄土高原丘陵沟壑区). The terrain is characterized by a slope from northwest to southeast. The highest point is in Shajiawan Village (沙家湾村) at an elevation of 2,259 meters, while the lowest point is in Daokou Village (道口村) at 1,769 meters.

Baixianbao Hui Township has a temperate monsoon climate. The annual average temperature is 6.4°C, with a frost-free period of 150 days. The annual average precipitation is 375 millimeters, with rainfall primarily occurring in August and September. The annual evaporation rate is 1,350 millimeters.

Hydrology

The rivers in Baixianbao Hui Township are part of the Yellow River (黄河) basin, with the Luchai River (芦岔河) being the main river. Other rivers include:

By the end of 2011, Baixianbao Hui Township had a total population of 20,000, with 2,006 permanent urban residents, resulting in an urbanization rate of 10%. Additionally, there were 2,020 floating residents. The population was 52.0% male and 48.0% female, with 16% under 14 years old, 74% between 15 and 64 years old, and 10% over 65 years old. The Hui ethnic group constituted 74.8% of the population, while Han Chinese made up 22.4%, and Dongxiang (东乡族) people were 2.8%. The birth rate was 10.5‰, the death rate was 4‰, and the natural population growth rate was 6.5‰. The population density was 96 people per square kilometer.
