Weihai Sand Sculpture Festival Kicks off
Enormous temples, giant horses and ancient warriors were built in the space of a few days.
This isn’t some futuristic architecture, but the ninth Weihai Sand Sculpture Festival, held in east China’s Shandong Province.
The annual event takes place on the edge of the Yellow Sea, inviting sand sculptors from home and abroad to create works of art out of nothing more than the sand between their toes.
Recent years have seen the likes of Kung Fu Panda appear on the beach, while this year is expected to host a variety of sculptures inspired by the legendary 16th-century novel Journey to the West.
