14 Days Sichuan-Qinghai-Tibet Train Tour with Leshan and Mount Everest Experience

Day 1 Chengdu Arrival

Sightseeing and Activities: Chengdu Arrival

Meals: None

Upon your arrival, met by the tour guide and transferred to your hotel. The rest of the day is free at leisure.

Day 2 Chengdu – Leshan – Mt. Emei

Sightseeing and Activities: Leshan Giant Buddha, Baoguo Temple
Accommodation: at the foot of Mt. Emei
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch

Today we will drive about 154km to Leshan to visit Leshan Giant Buddha. The Buddha is a small mountain, from its head to shoulder, and from leg to foot, about 30 minutes hiking. We will visit the Buddha by boat.

In the afternoon, continue the tour to Mt. Emei and visit Baoguo Temple – the first temple on the mountain. Later, enjoy an optional hot spring bath bath at the foot of Mt. Emei.

Day 3 Mt. Emei – Chengdu

Sightseeing and Activities: Mt. Emei, Golden Submit, Wannian Temple

After breakfast, take the local sightseeing bus to Leidongping. Walk about 20 minutes to the cable car station, and take cable car to Golden Submit. Visit Golden temple, the silver temple, the huge Puxian Statue, enjoy the magnificent view of the clouds, mountains, forest.

Then take the sightseeing bus to Wannian Temple and have lunch here. Afterwards hike down the mountain and take a bus out of the scenic area. Drive back to Chengdu.

Day 4 Chengdu – Xining

Sightseeing and Activities: Fly from Chengdu to Xining

Today take a flight to Xining. Upon arrival, the tour guide will pick you up and transfer you to your hotel. Explore this city at leisure.

Day 5 Xining – Qinghai Lake – Xining

Sightseeing and Activities: Qinghai Lake

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch

In the morning, drive about 2.5 hours to Qinghai Lake, the largest inland and salt-water lake in China and is fed by 23 rivers. We will stop at the Erlang Jian Scenic Area to enjoy the beauty of Qinghai Lake.

Day 6 Xining – Lhasa

Sightseeing and Activities: Taer Monastery
Accommodation: Lhasa
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch

After breakfast, drive about 25km to visit Taer Monastery, the birthplace of the Tibetan Buddhism master – Tsongkhapa. Appreciate the famous “three bests” – butter sculptures, the barbolas, and the murals.

In the afternoon, escorted to board the overnight train to Lhasa.

Day 7 Lhasa Arrival

Enjoy the spectacular sceneries along the Qinghai-Tibet Railway. Welcome to the roof of the world – Lhasa! Upon arrival, met by tour guide and transferred to your hotel. Have a good rest and get acclimatized to the high altitude in Tibet.

Day 8 Lhasa

Sightseeing and Activities: Potala Palace, Tibet Museum, Johkang Temple, Barkhor Street
Accommodation: Lhasa
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch

After breakfast at hotel, the Lhasa tour begins with the must-see attraction – Potala Palace, the largest monastery of its type in the world and official home to Dalai Lama. Then continue the tour to Tibet Museum, an important window to learn the glorious culture of Tibet.

In the afternoon, move on to Jokhang Monastery and walk along the Barkhor Street nearby. Enjoy the local Tibetan culture here.

Day 9 Lhasa

Sightseeing and Activities: Drepung Monastery, Sera Monastery
Accommodation: Lhasa
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch

After breakfast at hotel, drive to visit Drepung Monastery – one of the three great monasteries in Tibet. Visit the biggest monastery kitchen inside the monastery and enjoy Buddhist Sculpture Carving workshop near Drepung.

In the afternoon, move on to another one of the “great three” Gelug university monasteries of Tibet – Sera Monastery. Visit Monks debate, Tibetan religious scripture printing house, three sand Mandalas and colorful Rock Painting of Buddha.

Day 10 Lhasa – Shigatse

Sightseeing and Activities: Yamdrok-tso Lake, Pelkor Monastery, Gyantse Kumbum
Accommodation: Shigatse
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch

After breakfast, we will drive over the Gampala pass to Shigatse. On the way, have a glimpse of Yamdrok-tso Lake – one of the three largest sacred lakes in Tibet, which is surrounded by many snow-capped mountains and is fed by numerous small streams. Also have spectacular views of Holy Mount Nyenchen Khangsar in the distance, the highest mountain near Lhasa.

Then pass the Korola Glacier and enjoy it on the roadside. After Gyantse arrival – Tibet’s third largest city, visit the Pelkor Monastery and Gyantse Kumbum.

Continue the drive to Shigatse – the second largest city in Tibet.

Day 11 Shigatse – Everest Base Camp

Sightseeing and Activities:
Accommodation: tent or guesthouse
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch

Today we will continue driving to Lhatse and have lunch here. Then move on to Shegar and on the way we can view the Mt. Everest in the distance in a clear day.

At last arrive at Rongbuk Monastery – the highest monastery in the world. On the way, view the whole five highest peaks in the world on Pang La Pass – one of the highest passes in Tibet.

Day 12 Everest Base Camp – Shigatse

Sightseeing and Activities: sunrise, Rongbuk Monastery
Accommodation: Shigatse
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch

Get up early to enjoy the stunning sunrise of the peak. Then visit Rongbuk Monastery.

After the visit, drive back to Shigatse.

Day 13 Shigatse – Lhasa

Sightseeing and Activities: Drive back to Lhasa
Accommodation: Lhasa
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch

Today we will follow the friendship Highway back to Lhasa, which will take about 6 hours.

Day 14 Lhasa Departure
