Shanghai Port Wusong Passenger Transport Center

The Wusong Passenger Transport Center (吴淞客运中心) is located at 271 Huacheng Road, Baoshan District, Shanghai (上海市宝山区化成路271号), and was officially opened on September 16, 2003. It serves as one of Shanghai’s major waterborne passenger hubs. Situated at the confluence of the Huangpu River (黄浦江) and the Yangtze River (长江), the center spans 250,000 square meters and features 700 meters of waterfront. The center operates more than 20 long-distance ferry routes, connecting destinations such as Chongming Island (崇明), Putuo Mountain (普陀山) in Zhejiang, and areas in Jiangsu and Anhui. It averages 20 departures per day and offers seamless connections between water and land transport through Metro Line 3 and various bus routes.

The center originally started as the Shanghai Shiliupu Passenger Station (上海十六铺客运站), and in 2003, several routes, including those to Putuo Mountain (普陀山), were relocated here. In 2008, the construction of a new passenger terminal and international cruise terminal began, with plans to open before the 2010 Shanghai Expo (2010上海世博会). In 2016, the port introduced a smart shipping platform, marking the transition to an “Internet+Passenger Transport” model.

Future Development

Domestic Water Tourism Hub

In the future, the Wusong Passenger Transport Center will integrate Yangtze River cruises, coastal tours, Three Island ecological water tourism, and Huangpu River sightseeing into a national water tourism hub. The center is also expected to become a key water transfer point during the 2010 World Expo and a gateway to the city.

Modernizing Water Transport

The planned development will include modern commercial, shipping service, and financial industries to create a global water tourism and international shipping service center focused on passenger ferries and tourism.

The Wusong Passenger Transport Center is an essential hub in Shanghai’s waterborne transportation system. With its extensive ferry routes, strategic location at the confluence of major rivers, and ongoing development projects, the center is poised to become a leading national water tourism gateway, offering both domestic and international services to travelers.
