Location and Administrative Division

Linbei Hui Ethnic Township (临北回族乡, Linbei Huizu Xiang) is located in the southwestern part of Wuhe County (五河县), Bengbu City (蚌埠市), Anhui Province (安徽省), China. It is bordered to the east by the Huai River (淮河), to the south by Linhuai Guan Town (临淮关镇) in Fengyang County (凤阳县) of Chuzhou City (滁州市), to the west by Mohekou Town (沫河口镇), and to the north by Daxin Town (大新镇). The township covers an area of 59.83 square kilometers.

As of the end of 2019, Linbei Hui Ethnic Township had a registered population of 28,159.

Historical Background

  • Before 1950: Part of Fengyang Prefecture, known as Hebei Town.
  • 1950: After land reforms, Linbei was incorporated into Guofu Township (郭府乡).
  • 1958: Incorporated into San Chong, Xinji, and Daxin Communes.
  • 1972: Established as Linbei Commune.
  • March 1995: Established as Linbei Hui Ethnic Township.
  • October 2002: Implemented the “Three Merges and Three Reforms” policy, consolidating 17 villages into 11 administrative villages.

By the end of 2011, Linbei Hui Ethnic Township was divided into 11 administrative villages: Linbei (临北), Dongyuan (东元), Youxiang (尤巷), Duanzhuang (段庄), Qianshan (前坂), Houshan (后坂), Guantangpu (官塘铺), Huangzui (黄嘴), Xinhua (新划), Shilicheng (十里城), and Yujia (于家).

As of October 2021, the township continues to consist of 11 administrative villages: Dongyuan Village (东元村), Linbei Hui Village (临北回族村), Youxiang Hui Village (尤巷回族村), Guantangpu Hui Village (官塘铺回族村), Qianshan Village (前坂村), Houshan Village (后坂村), Duanzhuang Village (段庄村), Xinhua Village (新划村), Huangzui Village (黄咀村), Shilicheng Village (十里城村), and Yujia Village (于家村). The township government is located in Linbei Village (临北村).

Linbei Hui Ethnic Township is located in the southwestern part of Wuhe County, bordered by the Huai River to the east, Linhuai Guan Town in Fengyang County to the south, Mohekou Town to the west, and Daxin Town to the north. The total area is 59.83 square kilometers.

Topography

The terrain of Linbei Hui Ethnic Township slopes gently from west to east. The landscape is primarily flat and open alluvial plains, with only a small amount of low-lying areas. The general elevation ranges from 14 to 19 meters.

Climate

Linbei Hui Ethnic Township is situated in a transitional zone between the warm temperate semi-humid and subtropical humid climates, characterized by a warm temperate monsoon climate. The weather is mild with moderate rainfall and ample sunshine. Winters and summers are long, while springs and autumns are short. The average annual precipitation is 896.3 millimeters, with the highest rainfall in July (537.3 millimeters) and the lowest in December.

Natural Disasters

The major natural disasters in Linbei Hui Ethnic Township include hail, droughts, floods, windstorms, low temperatures, frost, and lightning strikes. Flooding occurs almost every year, with the most severe flood in 2007, which surrounded Linbei and Dongyuan administrative villages and affected 40,000 acres of crops.
