Overview

Gudu Hui Ethnic Township (Gudu Huizu Xiang) is a township under Xiejiaji District, Huainan City, Anhui Province. It is located in the southeastern part of Xiejiaji District. To the east, it borders Yanggong Town (杨公镇), to the south it is adjacent to Wabu Lake (瓦埠湖) and Shou County (寿县), to the west it neighbors a horticultural farm, and to the north it connects with Liyingzi Town (李郢孜镇) and Sanhe Township (三和乡) in Tianjia’an District. The total administrative area is 46.65 square kilometers. As of the end of 2019, the registered population was 17,995.

Getting There

By Train: The nearest major railway station is in Huainan City. From Huainan Railway Station, you can take a local bus or taxi to reach Gudu Township.

By Bus: Huainan City has a central bus station with services to various towns and districts. You can catch a bus to Xiejiaji District and then transfer to a local bus or taxi to reach Gudu Township.

By Car: Gudu Township is accessible by car via Provincial Highway 102. Driving from Huainan City, the journey takes about 30 minutes.

Historical Background

Gudu Hui Ethnic Township was established in April 1992. In July 2004, it was transferred from Changfeng County, Hefei City to Xiejiaji District, Huainan City.

Geography

Location

Gudu Hui Ethnic Township is situated in the southeastern part of Xiejiaji District. It borders Yanggong Town to the east, Wabu Lake and Shou County to the south, a horticultural farm to the west, and Liyingzi Town and Sanhe Township to the north. The total administrative area is 46.65 square kilometers.

Topography

The township is located in a transitional zone between hills and plains. The highest point is in the Beixu Group of Da Wa Village, at an elevation of 42 meters. The lowest point is in the Zhi Xi Group of Huang Lao Xu Village, at an elevation of 16 meters.

Climate

Gudu Hui Ethnic Township experiences a transitional climate between subtropical and warm temperate zones. The spring season is characterized by southeast and northeast winds, summer by east and southeast winds, autumn by southwest winds, and winter by northeast and northwest winds. The maximum wind speed can exceed 8 meters per second, typically during summer and the transition between summer and autumn. The annual average temperature is 15.4°C, with extreme temperatures ranging from -22.2°C (January 6, 1955) to 41.2°C (August 23, 1959). The frost-free period averages 233.7 days per year. Average annual precipitation is 937.2 millimeters, with the majority falling in July and August, averaging 10 rainy days per month. The area enjoys 2301.2 hours of sunshine annually.

Hydrology

The township’s waterways are part of the Wabu Lake system. Wabu Lake enters from the west of Sun Lao Ying Village and flows southeast through Gudu Village, Yang Zhen Village, Yang Gang Village, Cai Xu Village, and Huang Lao Xu Village. The lake stretches approximately 14 kilometers within the township and is the second-largest freshwater lake in Anhui Province.

Natural Resources

The primary mineral resources in Gudu Hui Ethnic Township are granite, with a small amount of shallow coal.

Population

As of the end of 2011, the total population of Gudu Hui Ethnic Township was 17,018. This included 520 permanent urban residents, resulting in an urbanization rate of 3.1%. There were also 3,038 transient residents. The population distribution was as follows:

  • Under 14 years: 2,964 (17%)
  • Ages 15-64: 12,032 (71%)
  • 65 years and older: 2,022 (12%)

The majority ethnic group is Han Chinese (13,972 people, 82.1%), followed by the Hui ethnic group (3,046 people, 17.9%). In 2011, the birth rate was 15.9‰, the death rate was 34.7‰, and the natural population growth rate was -18.8‰.

By the end of 2017, the resident population was 12,243. As of the end of 2019, the registered population was 17,995.
