Kaohsiung (高雄), a coastal city in southern Taiwan, is officially a special municipality with a diverse landscape ranging from urban centers to the rural Yushan Range. Covering an area of 2,952 km² (1,140 sq mi), it is Taiwan’s third most populous city, with a population of approximately 2.77 million as of 2018, and the second-largest metropolis in the country.
