Tainan Climate
It is situated in the south of the Tropic of Cancer. Like most of Taiwan, it has a subtropical climate, but Tainan borders on a tropical wet-dry sub-climate. The climate is mild over the years, and the average temperature is around 20 °C. Although there are four seasons, the temperature is difference is not too large.
Summer is a typhoon period, so the wet season and rains are more frequent. So it can be unbearably humid and hot. Its hottest days occur in late July, the heat cranks up to 31.0°C, and the average temperature in the hottest month is about 29.0°C.
Tainan is dry in winter because there is less rain. Temperatures in January and February can sometimes below 10°C for a few days.
The annual average temperature is 23.8 °C. The annual sunshine hours are 2421.3 hours, ranking the highest of the island.
The Best Time to Visit Tainan
Spring and autumn is the best season to travel Tainan. Because of the moderate temperature and good climate is suitable for getting around. Especially in October and November, it seldom rains when the temperature is comfortable and pleasant.
In spring, you can see kapok trees, Hollyhock flower, canola flowers, cornfield and so on. In autumn, you can enjoy the Maple trees.
While in summer, the temperature is high and sweltering, Tainan metropolitan park (台南都會公園), Dragon King Waterfall (龙王瀑布), etc are famous summer resort. In winter, usually the temperature is around 17.6℃ degree, the weather is dry, people can visit Qigu Salt Mountain (七股盐山) and other famous sites.
Dressing Tips
March - June, September - November: Dress normally in spring and autumn. Due to great temperature difference between morning and night, it is better to wear a thin sweater and windbreaker to avoid catching cold.
July - August: Humid and hot in summer. It is better to wear frivolous breathable clothes. Meanwhile, bringing rain gears with you when going on a tour in case it rains.
December – February: the weather can sometimes dip down below 10°C for a few days which feels colder than it sounds due to humidity. However, there can just as easily be daytime highs around 25°C in winter. So, Jackets and sweaters are necessary for cooler days and nights.
