Mount Jiuhua Overview
Location: Mount Jiuhua (Jiuhua Mountain), formerly known as "Lingyang Mountain" and "Jiuzi Mountain", is one of the "four famous mountains of Chinese Buddhism”. It is located in Qingyang County, Chizhou City, Anhui Province. It is known as the "first mountain in the southeast”.
Geography fatcs: Jiuhuashan is one of the three major mountain systems in southern Anhui. and the main mountain body is a strong fault zone consisting of granite rocks. Most of the marginal areas are bulging fault blocks composed of granodiorites. Jiuhuashan is located in the north subtropical area and it is not only affected by the humid monsoon, but also restricted by the altitude, topography and topography of the mountains, so the weather characteristics are mild, humid and cool. Jiuhuashan overlooks the Yangtze River in the north, Huangshan Mountain in the south, Taiping Lake in the east, Chiyang in the west, and stretches one hundred kilometers. There are mainly ninety-nine peaks, and the highest peak “Shi Wang Peak” is 1,342 mete above sea level. The Jiuhuashan area has a total area of about 120 square kilometers.
History: Jiuhuashan Buddhism originated in the early 5th century. It became a Dzotsu Bodhisattva Dojo in mid-Tang Dynasty. It became one of the important transmission centers of Buddhism in China during the Ming and Qing dynasties. It was also listed as the four famous mountains of Chinese Buddhism, with Mount Wutai and Putuo Mountain and Emei Mountain. Mount Jiuhua ’s Buddhism culture manifests itself as a coexistence of the beliefs of the Tibetans, the meditation of Buddhism and the blending of the three religions. The formation of the dissemination center has great significance for enriching the connotation of Minjiang Buddhism, continuing the lifeblood of Anhui Buddhism, and promoting the formation of Confucianism, Taoism, Buddhism. In addition, Mount Jiuhua has been helping the formation of the culture of Anhui, which has had an important influence in the history of world cultural exchanges.
