Lugu Lake Climate
Lugu Lake is located in the border of Yunnan Province and Sichuan Provine. The lake shoreline in Sichuan is longer than that in Yunnan. It is the largest natural lake in Sichuan and the highest freshwater lake in Yunnan. The average elevation of Lugu Lake is about 2690m. Because of its high elevation, Lugu lake has abundant sunshine all year round, favored with fresh air and charming natural scenery. Of course, don't forget to protect yourself from the strong radiation from the sun.
Best Time to Visit Lugu Lake
The months from March to October is the best time to visit Lugu Lake. However, without too much weather change from spring to winter, it allows visitors to get there at any time. In addition, considering that the months from July to September is the rainy season, the road to Lugu Lake will appear mountain landslide and debris flow, so do not choose this time to visit Lugu Lake.
Most visitors choose to visit Lugu Lake because of the water, mountain, mosuo people, and some like to visit there for the birds in winter, and some for the beautiful flowers in blossom season. When winter comes, the rare migratory birds, like swan and black-necked crane, will migrate to here for their winter, which will add a type of lively scene to Lugu Lake. The bank of the lake is full of various blossoms throughout the year, such as peach blossom and pear flower in March and April, ghent azalea in May June and July, sunflower in August and September, coreopsis in October and November.
Temperature in Lugu Lake Areas
Lugu Lake and its surroundings belong to Plateau Monsoon Climate. The annual average temperature is 17℃ and the temperature difference between morning and evening is large. The temperature is 15-25℃ in summer and 3-18℃ in winter, so not hot in summer and not cold in winter. Actually, according the high elevation and uneven land from south to north and complex mountain zones, Lugu Lake areas have three different climatic zones: subtropical zone in the southeast, warm zone in the center and cold zone in the northwest. In addition, the characteristics of vertical climate in some plateaus also be seen in Lugu Lake areas.

Four Seasons in Lugu Lake Areas
Spring: March, April, May
The spring of Lugu Lake is full of various blossoms. Peach blossom and pear blossom are all over the mountains and plains. Walking along the bank, you will see the deep blue lake water like a mirror, and sometimes the light wind disturbs the surface of the lake and the glistening ripples appear. The shadows of pine trees on the bank and the mountains far away reflect on the water. It look like a scenery of "Land of Idyllic Beauty". It is cold in the early morning and in night, so taking thick coat is necessary.
Summer: June, July, August
The temperature of Lugu Lake in summer is not hot. It can be said that it is the summer resort. Otherwise, it is the blooming season of red and white azalea. Summer is the best time to relax yourself in Lugu Lake area. Taking shirt, shorts is OK, and remember to protect yourself from the strong radiation from the sun.
Autumn: September, October, November
In autumn, the golden leaves embellish the chain of mountains in the surrounding. The crops have be ripe and it is a busy scene in the rice field. The water of the lake becomes more blue. The migratory birds start to fly to Lugu Lake area for their winter. Due to the strong radiation sunshine at this time, please take sun cream or others to protect yourself. Long johns are necessary for the cold in night.
Winter: December, January, February
The winter of Lugu Lake is not cold and the surface of the lake may not be icy. But there are a large change of day-and-night temperature, so please take a thick coat or jacket and other thermal cloth. Of course, they are not needed when you plan to walk or hike along the bank. At that time, all migratory birds have gotten together, like swan, black-necked crane, black-headed gull, mandarin duck and so on.
