Leshan Transportation

Leshan transportation is convenient and  "billions of traffic engineering" was put forward during the 12th Five-Year Plan, which includes "Two Aviation(Minjiang Avionics Integrated Development and Leshan Airport)", "Five Railway(Chengdu-Mianyang-Leshan Railway, Chengdu-Guiyang Railway, double line of Chengdu-Kunming Railway, Leshan-Ya'an Railway, Leshan-Zigong-Luzhou Railway)", "Ten Expressway (Leshan-Yibin Expressway, Leshan-Emei Expressway, Leshan-Zigong Expressway, Heshan-Hanyuan Expressway, Chengdu-Leshan-Xichang Expressway, Belt Expressway, double line of Chengdu-Leshan Expressway, Renshou-Muchuan Expressway, Jinhekou-Huili Expressway)" and "One Hub(Leshan Port Comprehensive Transportation Hub).

How to Get to/away Leshan

By Air

Leshan is 100 kilometers from Chengdu Shuangliu Airport, which can be connected by Chengdu-Leshan Highway and the double line of Chengdu-Leshan Highway, and by Chengdu-Mianyang-Leshan Inter-city High-speed rail(located at the underground layer 1 and 2 of T2 Terminal, where tourists can take Chengdu metro getting to Chengdu downtown). 

Leshan airport has started construction in 2017. It is located in Longgeng village, Guanying town, Wutongqiao district, Leshan city. It is 14 kilometers away from the center of Leshan city as the crow flies and 7 kilometers away from Wutongqiao city. It is expected to be put into use by the end of 2021.

By Railway

Chengdu-Kunming railway traverses the municipal Jiajiang, Mount Emei, Shawan, Ebian and Jinkou rivers. Tourists can get off at the Emei station when you go to mount Emei by train. The station is 10 kilometers away from the gate of mount Emei Scenic Spot (Baoguo Temple) and 31 kilometers away from Leshan. If go to Leshan, you can get off at Leshan North Station (Jiajiang), 30km away from Leshan city.

Chengdu-Mianyang-Leshan line starts at Chengdu East Station, along the Baoji-Chengdu railway getting to Jiangyou Station, and reach Leshan city via Meishan city. There are three station at Leshan: Leshan Station, Emei Station and Emei Tianxia Mingshan Station. Tourists can get to Emeishan scenic spot by 10-minutes' walking. It only takes about 40 minutes from Chengdu to Leshan.

Chengdu-Guizhou high-speed train will start operation by the end of 2019, in the region of Leshan, there are Leshan Station and Qianwei Station. After completion, it will connect Xi'an-Chengdu High-Speed Railway, Guiyang-Guangzhou High-speed Railway, and so on. 

Railway projects in Leshan under construction and proposed: double line of Chengdu-Kunming Railway, Leshan-Zigong-Luzhou railway, Leshan-Ya'an intercity railway, Chengdu-Guizhou high-speed railway.

By Highway

In 2017, Leshan has highways of total 11,871.26 kilometers, with 11,147 kilometers of graded highways. The completed expressways include Chengdu-Leshan expressway, Leshan-Ya'an expressway, Leshan-Yibin expressway, Leshan-Zigong expressway, Leshan-Hanyuan expressway, Renshou-Muchuan expressway, Leshan Belt expressway, with a total mileage of 235 km. There are 15 national and provincial highways, including national highway 213, 245, 348 and provincial highway 103, 213, 215, 307, 308, 309, 310, 311, 401, 428, 429 and 430, with a total mileage of 1,298km.

There are two passenger transport centers in Emeishan city: Emeishan passenger transport center located in the downtown area (Jiuzhu Bus Station), and the mount emei tourist passenger transport center located in the scenic area (near the Baoguo temple).

By Water

Leshan port has passenger ships to Chongqing and Shanghai, so the tourists can take the ship to Leshan.

How to Get around Leshan

By Tramcar

The construction of Leshan modern tram project includes the planned line 1: urban circle line, line 2: Leshan high-speed railway station - Leshan airport, line 3: Leshan Giant Buddha Scenic Spot - Mount Emei Scenic Spot. The total mileage of the three lines is about 76 kilometers. The first phase of the project includes line 1 and line 2, with an estimated construction period of 4 years, and the second phase of line 3 with an estimated construction period of 4 years.

By Bus

Buses are regular and uncrowded in Leshan. Emeishan city has three main bus routes:

  • Bus No. 1 : downtown - Emeishan city railway station (boarding place: No. 1 middle school of Emeishan city). The fare is 1 yuan; depart every 10 minutes.
  • Bus No.5 : downtown - Fuhu temple in Mount Emei Scenic Area (boarding place: Foguang Square). Ticket Fare: 1.50 Rmb; depart every 10 minutes.
  • Jiuli town - downtown - Luomu town circle line(departing at Tianxia Mingshan Stop and entering Baoguo Temple). The fare is 1 yuan. 

By Taxi

Starting price: 5 yuan /2 kilometers, and charge by meter. From the urban passenger transport center (Jiuzhu passenger transport station) to the scenic area tourist passenger transport center, about 8 km; It is about 9 kilometers from Emeishan railway station to the tourist passenger transport center of the scenic area. In addition, the taxi can only reach the Yingbin square of Mount Emei Scenic Area and tourists can only transfer a sightseeing car getting in.

Leshan is located at the confluence of Minjiang river and Dadu river, and there are dozens of  ships heading to Leshan Giant Buddha every day.
