Anyang Transportation

Overview

Anyang is a regional transportation hub, with continuous development in road, rail, and air transport. The city has an increasingly integrated transportation network. It is classified as a secondary logistics city in China and serves as a key national logistics hub. As one of the five regional logistics hubs in the Central Plains Economic Zone, Anyang has been included in the Central Plains Economic Zone and the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei coordinated development area. It has become an important node for the national strategy of the "Belt and Road," Henan's "Three Zones and One Cluster," and the Bohai Economic Circle.

Road Transport

In 2022, Anyang's road freight turnover reached 66.24 billion ton-kilometers, a 5.2% increase from the previous year. Road passenger turnover was 410 million person-kilometers, a decrease of 60.9% from the previous year. As of October 2022, the total length of highways in Anyang was 291 kilometers. The main construction of the Hehui Expressway (鹤辉高速) Anyang section and the Puwei Expressway (濮卫高速) Anyang section was completed, while the Taihang Expressway (太行高速) Anyang section, Anluo Expressway (安罗高速) Anyang section, and Anxin Expressway (安新高速) Anyang section were under construction. By May 2023, the total length of roads in Anyang had reached 13,218 kilometers, with a road density of 178.3 kilometers per 100 square kilometers. Major highways in the city include the Beijing-Hong Kong-Macao Expressway (京港澳高速), Nanlin Expressway (南林高速), Daguan Expressway (大广高速), Puwei Expressway (濮卫高速), and Taihui Expressway (台辉高速).

Railway Transport

Anyang is served by the Beijing-Guangzhou High-Speed Railway (京广高铁) and the Beijing-Guangzhou Railway (京广铁路), which run north-south, as well as the Jin-Yu-Lu Railway (晋豫鲁铁路), which runs east-west. The Jizheng High-Speed Railway (济郑高铁) now has stations in Neihuang (内黄) and Huaxian (滑县). The Wari Railway (瓦日铁路) has also opened a passenger service at Hongqi Canal Station (红旗渠站).

By the end of 2020, Anyang's railway operating mileage had reached 274.4 kilometers, including 47 kilometers of high-speed rail and 227.4 kilometers of conventional rail. The main stations in Anyang include Anyang Station (安阳站), Anyang East Station (安阳东站), and Anyang West Station (安阳西站). During the 14th Five-Year Plan period, 32.8 kilometers of high-speed rail will be completed, bringing the total length of high-speed rail to 79.8 kilometers. The Zhengzhou-Jiuzhou High-Speed Railway (郑济高铁) Anyang section is also under construction. Future plans include the construction of the Taiyuan-Anyang-Puyang-Xuzhou Railway and the Anyang-Puyang Intercity Railway. Other infrastructure projects include the expansion of the Huaxian special railway, the South Central Shanxi Railway link, and several dedicated railway lines for economic and technical development zones.

Anyang Railway Stations

Anyang Station (安阳站)

Anyang Station is a century-old station located at the western end of Jiefang Road in the city. It is an important station on the Beijing-Guangzhou Railway (京广铁路), with a center mileage of 490 kilometers and 987.55 meters. The station serves passenger traffic and is categorized as a Class I station, under the jurisdiction of the Zhengzhou Railway Bureau Group Corporation. The station was built on July 13, 1905, and was originally named Zhangde Station (彰德车站) during the Qing Dynasty. It was later renamed Anyang Station during the Republic of China period.

Anyang East Station (安阳东站)

Anyang East Station began operations in December 2012. It is located 2 kilometers east of the Anyang section of the Beijing-Hong Kong-Macao Expressway (京港澳高速). The station is positioned as an intermediate station and is the northernmost railway station in Henan Province, as well as the northernmost station under the Zhengzhou Railway Bureau. The station covers an area of 3,000 acres and has a building area of 15,994.56 square meters.

Air Transport

Anyang Hongqi Canal Airport (安阳红旗渠机场)

Anyang Hongqi Canal Airport is located in Wagang Township, Tangyin County, with the Beijing-Hong Kong-Macao Expressway (京港澳高速) to the west and National Highway 515 (国道515) to the east. The airport has an investment of 1.366 billion yuan and is classified as a domestic civil branch airport with a 4C flight area rating. It features a 2,600-meter-long and 45-meter-wide runway, a terminal building covering 6,123 square meters, seven parking stands, one control tower, and an 800-square-meter air traffic control building. The airport officially opened on November 29, 2023. It serves the population of Anyang, Puyang, and Hebi, benefiting approximately 11.6 million people. Its service radius includes around 60 million people in the central and southern parts of Shanxi, southern Hebei, and western Shandong.

Anyang Yindu Airport (安阳殷都机场)

Anyang Yindu Airport is located at 41 Shengli Road, Yindu District, Anyang. It is part of the Anyang Aviation School and currently does not have regular commercial flights. The airport is primarily used for flight training purposes.

Public Transportation

As of December 2022, Anyang had 945 public transport vehicles in operation, covering 64 routes with a total network length of 1,028 kilometers. The city’s urban bus network has a density of 3.65 kilometers per square kilometer, with 100% coverage of bus stops within 500 meters of residential areas. The city’s public transportation system includes a large number of new-energy buses and is at the forefront in Henan Province in terms of vehicle information systems and bus station infrastructure. During the 13th Five-Year Plan period, Anyang achieved 100% accessibility of public transportation to all administrative villages.

How to Get to Anyang City

To reach Anyang City in Henan Province, you have several travel options depending on your starting point. Below are the main ways to get to Anyang:

1. By Train

Anyang is well-connected by rail and can be reached from various major cities across China.

  • High-Speed Train: Anyang is served by the Beijing-Guangzhou High-Speed Railway (京广高铁), which connects the city to Beijing, Zhengzhou, Guangzhou, and other key cities. High-speed trains from Zhengzhou or Beijing can get you to Anyang in around 1–2 hours.

  • Conventional Trains: There are also regular trains on the Beijing-Guangzhou Railway (京广铁路) and other lines. These trains might take longer but are often more affordable than high-speed trains.

  • Train Stations: You can arrive at Anyang Station (安阳站) or Anyang East Station (安阳东站), depending on the train you choose. Both stations are well-equipped and have access to public transportation options within the city.

2. By Bus

Anyang is accessible by long-distance buses from various cities in Henan and nearby provinces.

  • From Zhengzhou: You can take a bus from the Zhengzhou Bus Station to Anyang. The journey typically takes 2-3 hours.

  • Other Cities: Many buses from nearby cities, such as Puyang, Hebi, and Luoyang, connect to Anyang via major bus terminals.

3. By Air

Anyang has two airports: Anyang Hongqi Canal Airport (安阳红旗渠机场) and Anyang Yindu Airport (安阳殷都机场).

  • Anyang Hongqi Canal Airport: This is a newly opened airport with flights connecting Anyang to major cities in China. If you're flying from Beijing, Zhengzhou, or another major city, you can fly into Anyang's Hongqi Canal Airport. From the airport, you can take a taxi or shuttle to the city center.

  • Anyang Yindu Airport: Primarily for training purposes, this airport does not handle commercial flights for passengers.

4. By Car

If you're driving, Anyang is well-connected by highways, including the Beijing-Hong Kong-Macao Expressway (京港澳高速), Nanlin Expressway (南林高速), and others.

  • From Zhengzhou: It takes about 1.5–2 hours by car (around 120 km).

  • From Beijing: The drive from Beijing to Anyang is about 5-6 hours (approximately 500 km).

  • From Luoyang: The drive from Luoyang to Anyang is about 2-2.5 hours (around 150 km).

5. By Public Transport within Anyang

Once you reach Anyang, public transportation options include buses, taxis, and even the Anyang Metro, which is under development and will eventually provide easier access to key locations within the city.
