Anhui Festivals and Events
Anhui Province is one of the earliest areas where Chinese culture is developed. The long history has produced a school of thought that has a major influence on traditional Chinese mainstream culture. It still affects Chinese and even world culture. But folklore is a special force that comes from the people, inherits from the people, regulates the people, and is deeply hidden in the behavior, language, and psychology of the people.
Lunar February 2
Lunar February 2 is the land of Lord’s birthday, and the ancient Huizhou is called “the dragon rises”. It was because of the arrival of midsummer season, when there was more rain and thunder. In rural areas, farmers avoid going to work in the filed on this day, and women are advised not to take a needle. In Jixi County, there is also a rice dumpling with rice for worshiping the god of earth. Lunar February 2 is also a birthday of a hundred flowers. It is also known as the “Flower Festival”. On this day, the literati arranged hundreds of flowers and held a Wenchang meeting, and contested poems.
People Day
The lunar seventh day of the first month is called “people day”, commonly known as “a lunar year”. This day is not allowed to go out and stay in someone's home, which is called "The lunar seventh day of the first month avoid coming out, The lunar eighth day avoid returning." People would burn incense in front of the chicken cockroach in order to driving wolf and fox drive; and burn leaves (fresh holly leaves), was called "a burst of wealth, two bursts of happiness, three blasts of mice doing not eat rice and rice." Some places also burn piles, poke silkworms to repel pests and pray for annual prosperity.
Flowering Day
February 15 is the day of flowers. Other people schedule that the lunar second day of the second month is "dragon rises up" or February 12 is the flowering period. Saying that day is a birthday for hundred kinds of flowers. the Qing Dynasty Cai Yun's “Wu Shuo” poem said “The flowers day are a good day, meaning half of the spring is coming. They are beautiful and colorful, and they are decorated with flowers.” The young people like to meet on this day. The old custom says that this day is a natural auspicious day, which is a day suitable for wedding and other auspicious events.
Jiuhuashan Buddhist Festival
The Jiuhuashan Buddhist Festival would be held in Gion Temple at8th April of lunar calendar every year.When the Buddha was born, a dragon sprayed a shower of incense. Therefore, Jiuhuashan Temple is set up for the Buddha and the chanting of Buddhist scriptures at each Buddha's birthday. During the Bathing Buddha period, the monastery would also held activities such as exorcising spirits (flaming up and burning boats) in addition to priming.
