Meizhou Administrative Divisions
Overview
In June 1994, Xingning County (兴宁县) was upgraded to a county-level city, and Meizhou City (梅州市) subsequently governed Meijiang District (梅江区), Meixian (梅县), Dapu County (大埔县), Fengshun County (丰顺县), Wuhua County (五华县), Pinyuan County (平远县), and Jiaoling County (蕉岭县), while also administering Xingning City (兴宁市) as a county-level city.
In October 2013, the State Council approved the abolition of Meixian County, establishing Meixian District (梅县区) and thereby ending county governance. As of that time, Meizhou City was composed of 2 districts (Meijiang District and Meixian District) and 5 counties (Dapu County, Fengshun County, Wuhua County, Pinyuan County, and Jiaoling County), along with the administration of Xingning City.
By June 2020, Meizhou City continued to consist of 2 districts (Meijiang District and Meixian District), 5 counties (Dapu County, Fengshun County, Wuhua County, Pinyuan County, and Jiaoling County), and the administration of one county-level city (Xingning City).
As of the end of 2021, Meizhou City was made up of 2 districts, 5 counties, and 1 county-level city, comprising a total of 104 towns, 6 subdistrict offices, 2,048 village committees, 210 neighborhood committees, and 11,135 natural villages. On March 8, 2021, Xingning City added three village committees: Yaba Village (一八村), Ersan Village (二三村), and Sisi Village (四五村) at Heshui Farm (合水农场).
By October 2022, the administrative structure of Meizhou City included 2 districts, 5 counties, and the administration of 1 county-level city: Meijiang District, Meixian District, Dapu County, Fengshun County, Wuhua County, Pinyuan County, Jiaoling County, and Xingning City. The Meizhou Municipal People's Government is located on Xinzong Road (新中路) in Jiangnan Street (江南街道) of Meijiang District.
