Overview

Daweihe Hui and Manchu Ethnic Township is located in the northwestern part of Wen’an County (文安县), Langfang City (廊坊市), Hebei Province (河北省). It shares borders with Suqiao Town (苏桥镇) to the east, Zhaogezhuang Town (赵各庄镇) to the south, Shigezhuang Town (史各庄镇) to the west, and Xinzheng Town (新镇镇) and Suqiao Town to the north. The township covers an area of 61.98 square kilometers, and as of 2018, the registered population was 31,715.

History

In 1953, Daweihe Hui and Manchu Autonomous Township was established. In 1957, it was renamed Daweihe Hui and Manchu Ethnic Township. In September 1958, it became part of the Chaoying Commune. In June 1961, it was separated and established as Daweihe Commune. On April 14, 1984, it was restored to Daweihe Hui and Manchu Ethnic Township. As of June 2020, the township administers 24 administrative villages.

In 2018, Daweihe Hui and Manchu Ethnic Township had 320 industrial enterprises, including 8 large-scale enterprises and 2 comprehensive stores or supermarkets with a business area exceeding 50 square meters.

Geographic Environment

Location

Daweihe Hui and Manchu Ethnic Township is situated in the northwestern part of Wen’an County, bordered by Suqiao Town to the east, Zhaogezhuang Town to the south, Shigezhuang Town to the west, and Xinzheng Town and Suqiao Town to the north. The total area is 61.98 square kilometers.

Population

At the end of 2002, the total population of Daweihe Hui and Manchu Ethnic Township was 19,670, with 4,406 ethnic minority residents (2,698 Hui). By the end of 2003, the population had increased to 19,692, with 4,412 ethnic minority residents (2,701 Hui).

By the end of 2011, the total population was 31,096, including 819 urban residents, resulting in an urbanization rate of 2.6%. Among the total population, 16,344 were male (52.5%) and 14,752 were female (47.5%). The majority ethnic group was Han Chinese, totaling 26,590 (85.5%), while Hui and Manchu populations together accounted for 4,506 (14.5%). In 2011, the birth rate was 14.4‰, the death rate was 7.4‰, and the natural growth rate was 7‰. As of 2018, the registered population reached 31,715.

Historical and Cultural Heritage

Name Origin

The township is named after Daweihe Village, where the township government is located.

Historical Sites

  • Daweihe Village Mosque: This mosque is a traditional Chinese architectural style, covering over 1,000 square meters. It was originally built during the Ming Dynasty in the Yongle period. In the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty, it was commissioned by the Uyghur concubine of Emperor Qianlong, who sent a Hui eunuch with the surname Cao to oversee its construction. The mosque features a plaque inscribed with “Zheng Da Guang Ming” (正大光明) written by Emperor Qianlong, although it was destroyed during the Cultural Revolution. The mosque has undergone three major renovations and is now listed as a county-level cultural relic protection unit.

Honors

On October 1, 2020, the Daweihe Hui and Manchu Ethnic Township government was awarded the title of Model Collective for Ethnic Unity and Progress in Hebei Province.
