Beibu Gulf Square, Beihai

Beibu Gulf Square

Beibu Gulf Square is located in the center of Beihai city. It was built in December 1985. The original square area is 2 hectares.

Beibu Gulf Square is composed of five functional areas, i.e. “nanzhuhun” central area, assembly square area, central axis area, cultural square area and lawn area. The central area of the landmark building “nanzhuhun” is the core functional area of the square. The pool, fountain, sculpture group and the surrounding three flower beds set off the tall and magnificent “nanzhuhun” sculpture, fully reflecting the culture and local characteristics of Nanzhu, and becoming the stop point for tourists to watch the city scenery and the central landscape of the square.

On the north side of the square is the sculpture of “nanzhuhun”. The sculpture construction plan is designed by Professor Ye Yushan, a famous sculptor in China. The whole sculpture covers an area of 600 square meters and consists of three parts: pool, sculpture group and monument body. The water pool is round, with a diameter of 13.8 meters and a storage capacity of 150 square meters, symbolizing the sea. In the center of the pool stands a 12 meter high pearl shell shaped monument.

There are three groups of sculptures around the main monument in the pool, namely, the Pearl girl riding the sea fish, the young fisherman riding the turtle and the fisherman riding the sea horse. Each group of statues is up to 5 meters high and is made of alloy copper. In 1993, lights and fountains were added in the pool. When night fell, the steles, sculptures, lights and fountains were shining together. The scene was magnificent.
