Bang River and Sela Scenic Resort in Daocheng County, Garze
Bang River (傍河) is not only a river but also the name of a township in Daocheng County, Garze Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province. It is located in the western part of Daocheng County, about 6 kilometers from the county seat, covering an area of 263 square kilometers. As of the end of 2019, Bang River had a registered population of 1,560 residents.
Established in 1958, the township was abolished on December 23, 2019, along with Sela Township (色拉乡), leading to the creation of Gatong Town (噶通镇), which encompasses the former administrative areas of both townships. By June 2020, Bang River comprised eight administrative villages, with the township government based in Zhongdui Village (仲堆村).
In 2011, the primary agricultural activities in Bang River focused on crop cultivation, including barley, potatoes, rapeseed, and turnips, while livestock farming centered on cattle, horses, sheep, and pigs.
Sela Township, also abolished in 2019, was located in the southwestern part of Daocheng County, bordering Jinzhu Town (金珠镇) to the east, Chitu Township (赤土乡) and Julong Township (巨龙乡) to the south, and Mula Township (木拉乡) to the west. The township government was about 8 kilometers from Daocheng’s center and covered 184.7 square kilometers. By the end of 2019, Sela had a registered population of 1,877 residents.
Sela was primarily focused on agriculture, cultivating barley, potatoes, and rapeseed, and raising cattle, pigs, horses, and sheep.
