144-hour Visa-free Transit in Shanghai

Foreign nationals who transit through Shanghai with a valid visa for a third country are eligible for a 72-hour or 144-hour visa-free transit policy. The policy allows travelers to stay in Shanghai for a short period without requiring a Chinese visa.

To be eligible for the 144-hour visa-free transit policy, travelers must meet the following requirements:

  1. Hold a valid passport from a qualified country.
  2. Have a confirmed onward flight ticket to a third country within 144 hours of arriving in Shanghai.
  3. Depart from Shanghai within the specified 144-hour period.

Travelers who meet these requirements can stay in Shanghai for up to 144 hours (6 days) without a visa. The policy is valid for 144 hours from the time of entry into China.

It is important to note that the visa-free transit policy does not allow for entry into China or for any form of employment or business during the stay. Travelers must remain within the designated transit areas and are not allowed to leave the airport or seaport without proper authorization.
